Steps in Surface

I am having a problem of "steps" being modeled in my Surface.  I am using contours to generate the surface.  Instead of Civil 3D modeling a smooth straight surface from contour to contour, it is modeling a step like transition.  Any ideas as to why?

Can you post a screen cap or a DWG so we can see what you are seeing?

When you add polyline contours to a surface, there are options to minimise flat spots. You'll need to experiment, but I've found just turning on all the options does a reasonable job (see pic). The issue occurs when the triangle distance from vertex to vertex on the same contour is less than the distance between different contours.
