SP1 for C3d 2014 a total disaster...help

I started C3d 2014 today and received the notification about the service pack so I updated.

I wish I *** hadn't! This is awful! The trim command no longer functions correctly and neither does intersection from the autosnap menu.

I use these commands regularly when constructing a trench drawing from a measured sketch.

Intersection simply is not working with polylines (it did work with circles). I cross my lines and go to put a point or another line at the intersection, but instead of snapping to the intersection as commanded it's snapping to the end of one of the lines. The little 'intersection' label comes up as it should but the cross snaps to the end of the line and not the intersection. I tried turning off the other autosnaps but it made no difference. With other snaps off, int does nothing at all if trying to snap to an intersection of polylines. If I put the other snaps on and it snaps to one of those instead.

I tried copying everything into a new file and it made no difference.

Trim is now not removing everything on one side of the selected line either. Some lines I can't select at all when using trim, and while others will select, it's removing the line from BOTH sides of the selected cutting line.

Did the service pack alter a variable? Can I set it back to the usual behaviour?

Edit - this is ludicrous! I just drew a polyline rectangle, drew a pl from the middle of it  to the outside, then selected trim, selected the rectangle as the cutting edge, and clicked on the end of the polyline that was outside the rectangle, and it trimmed the INSIDE bit off while leaving the outside!

Well I rebooted the PC and new files seem to be working correctly now, but the files I created straight after the restart from the SP installation still show the same glitches.

Very weird.

Fingers crossed that's the end of it.

I spoke too soon. While the initial glitches have subsided, I am left with double click no longer triggering the properties box.

It's triggering PEDIT instead when I click on polylines. CDan someone tell me how to make it trigger the properties box again please? I tried setting a souble click action in CUI but it has had no effect. I tried the couble click variable and that doesn't do anything except switch on and off ANY response to a double click.

This is definitely the last time I install a service patch.

What else have they wrecked?

I am not experiencing the issues you are having. I don't know if there has been a variable reset on your machine by the Update. It has not happened her.

I would look at PROJMODE or EDGEMODE for theTRIM issue. Also, are your plines equal evevation and is your UCS set to world or another coplaner setting to the Plines? often times this will make TRIM throw a tantrum.

I am looking into another SP1 issue. I will post here if I find additional results for you.

This is the default behavior for dbl clicking a polyline in C3D2010, 2012, 2013, & 2014. If you had it opening the properties palette then it was a modification to the CUI. This is why I place as many of my customizations in my own partial menu that will never be overwritten by an update. If something stops working it just means that the menu is no longer being loaded so a quick trip into the CUI to add that menu back in and I'm good to go. (All of my dbl click actions are in this menu file).

BTW, changing the dbl. click action for a LWPolyline in the ACAD partial menu file allowed the properties palette. to be displayed instead of pedit:

You mentioned that a restart fixed some of the weirdness; it states clearly in the readme to restart once the SP has been applied.

If you install, as I did, from the drop down prompt that appears in the top right of the C3d window, you never get to see the readme. Thank you.

Thanks, but I don't actually know how to do that. (Including making a custom menu.)

Can you help me please?

After 5 yrs or so with the CUI I still cannot figure it out and all customisation done through it is guesswork and bodge and fudge. I drag things around until I either get what I want or throw somethng at the monitor and go for coffee.

I have toolbars set up and I go into the CUI as infrequently as possible as it is unintuitive, un-userfriendly, and makes no sense whatsoever. 😞

Do I drag LWpolyline from all commands up under doubleclick actions? If not, where do I drag it?.

I did get it working once upon a time (until yesterday), but can't remember what I did.

This time I tried dragging Doubleclick1 up from commands and dumped it under doubleclick actions and set it to properties, which didn't work.

Thanks

(And I see that I managed even worse typing than normal in my first post. Please blame lack of sleep not rubbish spelling.)

Thank you. 🙂

Thanks. I'll have a look at those variables if it comes up again. At the moment it seems that the bug only affected the files that I created immediately after the update. Those created before and since are behaving normally.

Bother! I'm used to forums that include a quote so you know which reply is to which post when replying to different people and posts.

I hope you can work out which is what.

Disaster? Civil 3D 2014 is a complete waste of money. When I received my 2014 upgrade in April on subscription, I found that the Surface Analysis routine no longer worked so I started the thread 'Civil 3D 2014 Bug in Surface Rebuild'. I took part in the testing of this re-instated Fix for SP1, and really looked forward to the release of SP1.

So, I re-installed C3D 2014 in anticipation of the release of SP1, then when it was released last week,  downloaded and installed SP1.

Now, my workstation works at the speed of a tortoise! Move the cursor over any icon, menu, ribbon and click on, then wait 10 to 30 seconds for the list or action to take place.

Any suggestions as to what is going on would be very helpful. In the meantime, it is back to working with C3D2013.

It's up to the person replying whether or not to include a quote. If you want to quote something, click the "Quote" link when you are making your reply, and edit as needed.

Oh I see. Thanks. I thought that was for inserting quotes that you were copy/pasting in.  As I said, I'm used to different forums where 'reply' automatically inserts a quote, and 'quote' is a button that you click on to put a quote box around something you pasted in.

I have noticed that there is now a definite lag after some commands before it actually gets on with the job.

Having spent a few hours today trying different things, I have managed to narrow down the problem - it is connected to the menu bar.

Prior to installing SP1, when moving the cursor over a menu, the menu became highlighted and when I clicked on the menu, the drop-down list appeared straightaway.

After installing SP1, when moving the cursor over a menu it becomes highlighted straightaway but then when I click on the menu, there is a delay of 10-30 seconds before the drop-down list appears. The delay time varies according to which menu is clicked.

What confused me regarding my first reply was that having clicked on the menu bar and nothing happened, I then clicked on other icons and ribbons and then nothing happened with them for the time delay. Once the time delay is over, if I click on icons and ribbons, then they function straightaway.

Therefore, it looks like the menu bar delay affects the whole C3D 2014 operation for the delay period.

I'm seeingg that one too.

I also am encountering a bug I haven't seen since trying to run C3d2013 on my old XP computer which barely scraped under minimal requirements, which is that on the larg file that I currently have open I cannot globally change ANYTHIN in the properties box because if I select  everything, it says that I have no selection!

Under "My settings", although I can't remember specifically where.  Doesn't hurt to poke around a bit though.
