SP1 for C3d 2014 a total disaster...help

I started C3d 2014 today and received the notification about the service pack so I updated.

I wish I *** hadn't! This is awful! The trim command no longer functions correctly and neither does intersection from the autosnap menu.

I use these commands regularly when constructing a trench drawing from a measured sketch.

Intersection simply is not working with polylines (it did work with circles). I cross my lines and go to put a point or another line at the intersection, but instead of snapping to the intersection as commanded it's snapping to the end of one of the lines. The little 'intersection' label comes up as it should but the cross snaps to the end of the line and not the intersection. I tried turning off the other autosnaps but it made no difference. With other snaps off, int does nothing at all if trying to snap to an intersection of polylines. If I put the other snaps on and it snaps to one of those instead.

I tried copying everything into a new file and it made no difference.

Trim is now not removing everything on one side of the selected line either. Some lines I can't select at all when using trim, and while others will select, it's removing the line from BOTH sides of the selected cutting line.

Did the service pack alter a variable? Can I set it back to the usual behaviour?

Edit - this is ludicrous! I just drew a polyline rectangle, drew a pl from the middle of it  to the outside, then selected trim, selected the rectangle as the cutting edge, and clicked on the end of the polyline that was outside the rectangle, and it trimmed the INSIDE bit off while leaving the outside!

Hi,

I'm sure that you must think that I'm an idiot because your screenshot is not enough for me to understand what you mean, but you didn't include the top of the tree in the screenshot. I cannot find anything even remotely resembling that image in the all customisation files section. Can you please tell me where to look?

Thank you.

This is the default behavior for dbl clicking a polyline in C3D2010, 2012, 2013, & 2014. If you had it opening the properties palette then it was a modification to the CUI. This is why I place as many of my customizations in my own partial menu that will never be overwritten by an update. If something stops working it just means that the menu is no longer being loaded so a quick trip into the CUI to add that menu back in and I'm good to go. (All of my dbl click actions are in this menu file).

BTW, changing the dbl. click action for a LWPolyline in the ACAD partial menu file allowed the properties palette. to be displayed instead of pedit:

I hope this helps you guys or Autodesk locate the "delay" problem.

I am a trainer so I use Civil 3D uncustomized straight out of the "Box" with SP1 now installed. I have NOT experienced any of the delay issues that I am getting calls on and seeing here on the DGs.

I will "poke around" and see if making some common CUI adjustments causes the delay.

Good idea.

I can't actually use C3d in default because few of the commands that I use regularly are actually on the ribbon so I turn that off and just use my toolbars and the command line. Maybe turning the ribbon off could cause an issue?

 btw

I still can't get properties by double clicking a polyline.

That screenshot was taken with the ACAD partial menu file expanded to the DoubleClick actions and scrolled to LWPolyline. Here is a short video showing the process.

Following an SR to Autodesk and good help from Autodesk Product Support, the problem of the time-lag on the menu bar has been solved.

After installing C3D2014plusSP1 on another computer, it was evident that the problem was in my workstation and possibly a conflict between software, identified as mainly between Autodesk and Adobe products.

Without going into details, there are issues between C3D2014plusSP1 and Adobe Photoshop CS6. In contrast, C3D2014plusSP1 co-exists with Photoshop CS5 without any problem, the C3D menu bar opening as soon as one clicks on it. As CS6 is the last version in the CS series, being replaced by Photoshop CC (Creative Cloud), possibly it has been a case of 'too many clouds in the sky'.

Does the fix offered from Support allow them to coexist now?

No, I'm afraid that there isn't a Fix, at least for the moment. I only reported back to Autodesk yesterday, after following up on a recommendation from Technical Support to uninstall Adobe products and reinstall C3D.

The cause of the problem came to light after running Microsoft's Process Monitor to monitor the registry whilst loading C3D2014 and clicking on the menu bar. In the ProcMon log, it was evident that after clicking on the menu bar, C3D2014 was looking for anomalous registry keys some of which being associated with Adobe, not finding them in the HKCU or HKLM hives and then searching through the HKCR hive. Most of these anomalous keys were associated with Autodesk but they are 'rogue' keys that should not be present. The searching was the cause of the delay in the menu bar operation.

However, in the clean install of C3D2014 that I did on another computer that did not have any Adobe products, C3D2014 operated as expected. Also, in this other computer's registry, there were none of the anomalous keys in any hive of the type that C3D was searching for in my workstation.

The anomalous registry keys are prefixed by 'AboutDlg.******'. Autodesk TechSupp say that these keys should not be present in the normal installation of C3D. There is a library called 'AboutDlg.h' in Micosoft C++, which both Autodesk and Adobe use at runtime; possibly the problem is a conflict that lies there.

Prior to C3D2014, my workstation used C3D2013 and Photoshop CS5 without any problems or conflicts. Yesterday, once I had C3D2014 up and running as it should, I re-installed Adobe Acrobat Pro X and Photoshop CS5, and C3D 2014 operates as normal with these installed. I am loath to re-install Photoshop CS6 as I can use this version on another computer that does not have Autodesk products.

For Information re message 31.

Eight months on, I'm pleased to say that this conflict appears to have been solved in C3D2015. Having re-installed Photoshop CS6 a few weeks back, it looks as if C3D2015 and CS6 both operate correctly when installed on the one system.
