Software for creating points from EXIF data?

I just figured out how to use the latitude/longitude data embedded in photos taken with a GPS-enabled camera to make points showing the location of the photo. I only had a handful of photos, so I did it using the manual points creation tool. Is there software out there that can scan a directory of photos, extract the EXIF data, and create a point database?

What an interesting prospect, does it have a built in compass to record
the direction the lens is pointing?

If you to work on this, email a couple of the files to dotson [at]
dotsoft [dot] com. Almost anything is possible.

That's a lot of dots. You could almost say your email address has an ellipsis!

Throw a couple dashes in there and we can call him Morse.

Compass- that'd be very helpful, but I don't know... At this point I don't even have software to view the EXIF data on my work computer, but the IT department is working on it.

Terry, so far I only have a spreadsheet that just converts the Lat/Long coordinates to the DDd MM' SS" format for C3d. Last night I was playing with point description keys and the point import tools, but didn't make much headway. When I get something usable I'll let you know...

What I'm saying is that all I need are a couple of photos with data. We
produce software, I'm fairly certain we can read the EXIF data and take
it from there.

Some cameras must have them because there is a tag for it:

PropertyTagGpsImgDir
Direction of the image when it was captured. The range of values is from
0.00 to 359.99.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms534416(VS.85).aspx

I can imagine camera blocks in the drawing pointing in the direction of
the photo with hyperlinks to the image file itself, etc.

Oh, got it... you want the photos. I'll send you a couple shortly.
My co-worker used one of our new GPS-enabled digital cameras, and was able to use Google Earth to view the photos and they appeared to be in the correct place in the field. I asked him if the camera contained a compass too, and he told me that he thinks it does... the Google Earth world view rotated to align to some of the photos.

We're still learning, and it's very interesting.

Got a good start, determined the Lat/Long so far. There's some other
data to parse but no directional value in that file.

Further details via email.

If someone ist still interestedd in importing geotag-photos int a drawing. We have a extension for that, the GeoPhotoExtension. Have a look at the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrsJs8c7t9U.

The extension will be soon released on http://apps.exchange.autodesk.com/de in english. What do you think. Most of you must be carrying a gps-camera in form of a smartphone with you.
