Section Views - EG and PG

Where do I tell the section view that I would like to have the Existing and Proposed spot grade labeled for each section along the base/center line.??

Create a section data band style about the centerline and apply to your
sections. You may need to search through the help and do some tutorials on
sections and styles. Its a rather involved process, but once you've created
a style you like, you can just apply it to all future sections and / or
drawings.

Sandy,
Would you happen to have that in a DWT file you could post for me?

I can't seem to save one small enough to post here. Post your email and I
can send it to you. Be careful... don't just post your email address as is.
Spell it out or add "delete this" in the middle - anything to keep it from
being added to some spam list.

Try this... the band is in the location shown in an earlier post. Section 1 refers to the existing surface. Section 2 refers to the finished (or proposed) grade surface. You'll need to assign these when you first create the sections or you'll end up doing it to each individual section one at a time.

I could not get the dwt to post but the dwg worked just fine. You don't need to post your e-mail address!!!!!!!!!!!

I've just pulled down your dwg file with the band set and also am trying to label the EG and FG centerline in our cross sections. I get it to label, but I'm having issues with getting it to label the FG. It only is doing the EG with the cross section. I've gotten into the dialogue box with the option to choose surface 1 and surface 2, but I can only get the EG surface in both. Any ideas why? Is it based on how the sections were sampled and created possibly? I will wait to hear back and also tap into some other resources I have to see if the issue can be resolved.
Thanks for your posting. It has helped me get to this cross roads with the sections. Not sure I could have gotten here this quickly w/out your dwg.

Are you using 2007 sp3 and have you defined a separate surface for your
finished grade? Usually I do this in the corridor properties box.

Yes, we are using 2007 and SP2 (found some issues with SP3) and haven't deployed that 100% across the board. But, I can try to install SP3 and see if that has any effect. I've tried to attach the image of the dialogue box where you can set Surface 1 and Surface 2 but the DG wouldn't upload the image. Will try again on this post. Either way I will keep trying to get Surface 2 to accept our FG surface. If that doesn't work I will go back thru the xsections with the project engineer doing the work and see where it may be that we've missed something for assigning Surface 2 to our xsections. Hopefully the image of the screen capture will shed some light on matter.
Thanks

Make sure to save the image as a PNG or JPG to shrink the size.

I could never get this particular issue resolved in SP2. I was having the
same problem you are now. Only SP3 resolved the issue. Now as long as I
have the finished grade surface defined in the corridor before I create
sections, I don't usually have any problems with this particular item any
longer. I would highly recommend SP3 if this is any important item to you.

Hello again.
One more question. I can get the existing and proposed elevations to show up but only when I create contours from corridor and select finish grade. Then I only see the "top" line of my cross-sections. If I create sample lines and select the corridor as my data, I get the outline of all subassemblies but cannot select a proposed grade for surface 2? Any thoughts? Clear as mud? Is to me?

Excellent post and answers. Thanks Sandy, you have helped us as well. I have a question that follows up with this post. I don't want to hijack the question and answers, but my question fits with the issues of this post. We created cross sections before creating a cooridor surface for the finished grade. What is the best way to delete the sections? Should we delete the corridor and start over? I don't want to do more than necessary, but want to do it right the first time.

Thanks all.

I'm not sure I understand your problem, but here's a general process I use:

1) Define a finished grade surface and boundary, using Corridor Properties
surface and boundary tabs.
2 ) Create sample lines.
3) Create section views While creating section views, you will be given
an opportunity to define surface 1 and surface 2. Surface 1 is the existing
grade surface. Surface 2 is the finished grade (proposed) surface created
in the corresponding corridor. This only works with 2007 - SP3.

Try these steps in a clean drawing that originated in 2007. I have had
problems selecting surfaces in drawings that were originally created in
2006.

Hope this helps,
Sandy W.

Hello,
Glad I could help. Cross-sections have been a real issue with me.

I would start by deleting the sections and sample lines. By the way, if you
graphically choose your cross-sections and views, the sample lines will
probably be deleted as well. In theory, you should not have to delete the
sample lines, but I always have fewer problems if I just go ahead and delete
them. I don't think you should have to delete the finished grade surface.

Recreate your sample lines and then your sections. As you create sections
you will be given an opportunity to select surfaces for surface 1 and
surface 2. For my style, surface 1 is the existing grade and surface 2 is
the finished (proposed) grade you created in the corridor properties box.
This only works for 2007 - sp3.

Once you create a ACCURATE corridor and corridor surface with a decent
boundary (very difficult sometimes), creating sample lines and section views
is fairly quick and painless. It also helps to have created before hand
many many styles and bands that work for your production sheets.

Have a good day,
Sandy W.

I am looking for my sections to be similar to setting the object style to "Basic" but with the elevations (see attachment). Instead I must use the new surface from the corridor and that just plots the finish grade.
Hmmm.

Hello,
Make sure your sample line group properties have sampled all necessary
surfaces and then make sure when you create your sections, that all necessary
surfaces are set to draw.
