Secret to alignment line extensions?

Why would I not be able to get my alignment line extensions to show in my
drawing? The C-ROAD-LNE-EXTN layer is on. The linetype is set to continuous.
There is a radius of 30' at the PI. The alignment line shows through the
radius but not the extensions. The style is set to on in display. I can't
figure it out.

Did you convert a pline with a radius to an alignment. No go.

Use polylines with tangents only. Convert to alignments, then insert
curves.

Just guessing.

Yes Pline conected throught a series of PI's then converted to an alignment.
So that's the culprit.
Quick question. Since I have not had to do this yet how do you add a curve
in an existing alignment with tangents? I know how to get "rid" of one.

You can add the extensions through a curve segment label. I put a sample style here:

If you have an alignment without the extensions you can also edit the
alignment by removing the curve, use the apparent intersection osnap to
connect the two tangents & re-add the curve. The extensions will show.

I would not recommend this for normal production but when you need them you
can get them.

I'm confused here a little. From what I understand I can remove the curve
using the Edit>Alignment>Geometry, Delete Sub-entity then the alignment will
reconnect automatically, then I can re-add the curve. So why would I need to
osnap connect the two tangents as you describe?

When I delete the curve I get two disconnected tangents. You can connect
them anyway you like. Stretching one tangent to the apparent intersection of
the two is just very easy for me.

Have you tried going to alignment properties, intersection point tab and at the implied intersecton point display option, check either 'By change in alignment direction' or 'By individual curves and curve groups'

Why are you replying to a thread that is 6 years old? Your solution is not possible with Civil 3D back then. Also, there's another option to Solve PI which would solve the issue today.
