Scaling Objects to Paper Space Scale

Ok, maybe I'm just missing something really easy, but how can I get objects (corridors, alignments, profiles, etc..) to show up in a layout with the layouts scale??
I have a drawing with a 1:40 model space scale. I create a Layout with my sheet border and a viewport with a 1:40 scale - obviously everything looks great! BUT now I want an overview of the entire site which requires a sheet of 1:300 scale. I do this and all of the object labels, ticks, and section sample lines are HUGE!
How can I get the 1:300 scale to show the objects like the 1:40 scale??
I feel a little stupid - this should be an easy fix - what am I missing?

Thanks,
Chad

While in the layout, go into model space and do a regen. That usually works
for me.

I have tried regenall - it is not an issue of the options not changing when I change the viewport scale - it is an issue of the objects not wanting to view differently than the viewport scale.
In a nut shell - I am wondering if it is possible to show objects at a 1:40 scale in a viewport scaled at 1:300 scale??
We do this a lot of the time. We have "D" sheets that are plotted and viewed at 1:40 or 1:50 scale and then need to have an overall sheet showing the entire project 1:300 or 1:500 scale - with Civil 3D I can not get the objects (alignments, profiles, corridors) to view at these different scales. Even changing the drawing scale itself does not change the object scale in the 1:300 viewport.
I have attached a screen shot of what I an trying to do. The drawing on the left is the 1:300 scale and the one on the right is the same area as 1:40 scale - I want the text, ticks, and labels of the alignment and corridor on the left to show up like the one on the right.
Is this possible??
Thanks,
Chad

Type REGENALL (AD suggestion). Also make sure the layout is setup correctly.
I have seen this when using the layouts in the template files supplied by AD
(Layout1... strange scaling, Layout2... works fine.

OK - I see! I just found this in Civil 3D help:

Overview of the Label Style Composer

Paper space scaling
In paper space, label text always appears at the same height regardless of
the paper space viewport scale.

For example, label text height set to 0.1 appears as 0.1 inch on the plotted
sheet, regardless of viewport scale or zoom level.

So, to answer your question, I guess you will need to make label styles
specifically for your 1:300 scale viewport and assign those styles to each
entity. If you find a way to turn this feature off in particular viewports,
I would definitely appreciate knowing about it.

I really would rather not have to reassign each and every label style just
for one viewport. Also this makes it difficult to use both viewports on the
same layout page (as we often do). I guess I'll just turn off the label
layers in the overall (1:300 scale) view port if I need two varying
viewports on the same page.

I hope there is another way, but I can't seem to locate it.

Are the plotted text heights the same for both scales? You say the object
are HUGE, but do they plot the same size? If so this is the expected
behavior. It almost sounds to me like you want the objects plotted the
original height regardless of the viewport scale. For example.if a label is
1 unit at 1:1000 it should be 0.5 units at 1:2000. Is this correct? If so,
I'm not sure how one can change the default behavior.

YES!! swatfor and Matt, you both hit the problem I am facing. It is a lot like the PSLTSCALE function, but I need it for the Civil 3D objects and labels??
I need to be able to keep the drawing at the 1:40 model space scale and make it appear on the paper space 1:300 scaled viewport. Exactly what Matt had mentioned at the end of his reply.
Thanks for all the help,
Keep it coming!!!

What are your text heights in the label style composer? All text should be
scaled to represent plotted text height. (ex. L100 = .1, L80 = .08, etc.)
Make sure your text does not have any size associated with it under the text
style manager. This works differently than LDT. All text sizes should be 0.
The program will scale the text according to what you chose for the scale.
Model space scaling is taken from the Drawing Settings. Viewport scaling is
applied when you choose the proper scale for the viewport. Also make sure
when you do a regen that you are in the active viewport.

I can't see any way of making the software do what you want it to do. The
Civil 3D labels always scale themselves based on your viewport scale so that
they PLOT the same size.

At 1:100 a label plots 2mm high, the MODEL height would be 200mm
The same label in a 1:500 viewport plots 2mm high, but the MODEL height is
1000mm, 5 times bigger, but plots the same height.

I don't think there is a way around it.

This is in reference to Scaling Objects to Paper Space Scale. Go inside your viewport while in paper space. Set your XP scale. Ex: Zoom 1/50XP. Under your layout tabs to your right there is your VP scale and Annotation Scale. They both should say 1:50. On the VP Scale change it to 1:1 and then back to 1:50. The only problem I found is when you reopen the drawing the text is large again. You have to change the VP scale to 1:1 and then back to 1:50. If anyone can explain this better feel free to post if anyone gets this to work.

Not sure what you are saying here. There should not be any need to follow the procedure you are advocating.

Net problem in this post is how C3D elements scale to the viewport scale, and not to the annotation scale. The OP here would like to create an overview at a 300 scale, but wants all the symbols to remain at the same size relative to the surrounding linework as in the 40-scale viewports.

In other words, everything would be fine if C3D elements scaled according to annotation scale, instead of VP scale. Then the viewport scale could be set to 300, the viewport annotation scale could be set to 40, and everything would be as desired. Unfortunately, this is impossible in the current implementation of C3D.

There are ways to get this effect in C3D, but they are nasty. For example, you can define styles that use absolute heights for symbols, instead of dynamic point markers, or you can explode points into "dumb blocks". Things like that. Unfortunately, they're all things that we really don't want to do.
