Thanks for adding a point file.  It will help me build up  my portfolio for civil 3D.

I don't suppose you have any more point files you can share?

Hi,

Please tell me, how can I add these points files to CIVIL 3D?

Thnx

Message 7 of 19

You've got to copy and paste the points into your Notepad (desktop) and save.

"Home" tab > "Create Ground Data" panel > "Points" > "Point Creation Tools" > "Import Points" (right most option with the arrow) > "Add Files" (+) symbol > choose the points that you have saved in your desktop!

where is the location of point file name = existing ground point

Juice,
Your data is Lats and Longs, so you'll need to assign a Coordinate Reference System(maybe TX83-CF) before you can use those points. Make yourself a Big Ol'(Texas Talk) Point File Format set up to use Lats and Longs. Then you can Import your points and create a surface.

You got the data points from Google Earth so they are Lat/Long in degrees, not easting/northing in feet. To use them you'll need to create a new point file format because PENZ won't be accurate due to the units of degrees and feet are not interchangeable when geolocating points in El Paso or any other US city. Negative Y-value? Uh-uh.

You will need a format like point-lat-long-elevation. Both lat and long must be in decimal degrees, not DMS, not degrees+decimal min.

Btw, if you want elevation data, Google Earth is lousy. I'd look at other online sources (there are many) because GE will make 'boxy' contours with angles approaching 90 degrees and not 'spline-like' contours normally seen on contour maps.

oh my this is so helpful.but can you just go ahead and give me the steps of creating the new data point to match what i have.alos if you could be kind to plot the points on yourside and share the screenshot within the right point form it will really help.finally i am so new to this also if you have a better source for the data as you say kindly share the link where i can download for the same exact position.thanks and waiting to here from you.

Thanks so much this is exactly what is needed. But I was wondering if it would be possibly to get a long had of the description tangs as I am not vary familiar with them. If so that would be great!

 make you own 😮

Really, Why? for exercise of course

Make a matrix of acad points at any spacing and elevation.

Now you get to flex DATAEXTRACTION to csv file open EXCEL>> add numbers, descriptions etc...(UDP)

play with description keys and import

and so on

11 year old post! I hate when I do that

Thank you

you have exactly 1316 points. There are 19 points that don't have z-values. If it were me, I would simply delete the points that don't have z-values and keep the rest. The remaining 98.6% of points are enough to create a surface with only negligible difference.

Perform your edits in Excel. Examples of edits include, but are not limited to: adding, deleting or rearranging columns, adding or deleting rows. In the end, you'll have four columns A thru D. The format will be either PENZ or PNEZ, your choice.

A=Point

B & C=Easting & Northing (or Northing & Eastin)

D=Elevation

(You may also choose any other acceptable format allowed by AutoCAD.)
