Sag and Crest profile labels keep disappearing

Hi,

I have C3D 2013 and recently my profile labels for sag and crest vertical curves are disappearing.  When I first open the drawing and the program goes through loading I can see the labels but once it stops loading they disappear.  All my levels are on, I have ran an audit several times, I have deleted the labels in the manager and replaced them but once I save and quit they are no longer visible.  I am able to see the labels through an xref of the drawing but it appears that the labels have been reset to their default position and not where I had adjusted them to view them within the viewport.  I have attached pictures of what it looks like.  Can someone tell me what's causing this and how to fix it?

Scott

Looks like you are using 2013. Can you please list your computer specs, specific version of autocad and whether or not this happens on one machine or multiple?

Please verify that ALL layers are on and thawed. It sounds like there is a layer frozen but you said they were all on. Once you confirm that that's not it. We can try to think of something else.

Unfortunately I'm still on 2012. So I can't test it directly.

Civil 3D 2013 64 bit SP1.1 - version 10.0.1464.0

As of right now I am the only person running this program here so its just on my machine.  I have all of the layers on and thawed.

I have been working with this drawing for a couple months now with no problems until now.  Do you think the recent update could have had something to do with it?

It's possible. There are a couple of recent post dealing with DRef problems. But you didn't mention the profile being a Data Reference.

I tried creating a new profile view and placed it near my first profile view (that has missing profile labels).  The labels showed up in my new profile view but when I saved, closed and reopened the drawing the profile vertical curve labels were missing like in the first profile view.  As I said I can see the labels through an xref that I have and I wouldn't mind this problem so much if the labels remained where I had placed them, but they get reset to their defaut insert position after a save and close of the profile drawing that the labels are in.  I am running out of ideas, anybody able to help?

Would you mind posting the drawing so one of us can take a look?

My drawing is too large to post. Like almost 5 MB.  Know of a way around the max file size?

Update: I seem to have found a way around my problem but I am still curious as to what is causing it.  I locked the layer that the labels are on and it seems to keep my labels displayed and how I have arranged them.  But if I unlock the layer, save, close and reopen, the labels will not be displayed.

I have this same problem with ALL my 2013 drawings on every machine.  It's definitely a problem when you've customized several labels.  Have you found any other work-arounds?

Unfortunately the only thing that works for me is to lock the layer that the labels are on before saving and closing the drawing.  It will keep them how you have set them.  It's annoying but it works.

Well, since you couldn't post the dwg, I created my own in 2013, SP1.  All profile labels work for me, and stay upon reopening the drawing.  Not sure what might be causing your issue.  I'd suggest submitting a case to Adesk.

Lisa,

I did not create this original discussion but I have the same problem with all of my dwgs on every machine.  It may have something to do with shortcuts.  I tried to save a dwg to send, but when I promoted all my references, the problem went away.

Therefore, I'm attaching the problem dwg to this post and the referenced shortcut dwg in the next.  If you have time please check out the attach dwgs.  I'll attach the actual shortcut files in another post if necessary

Thanks,

Sandy W.

Lisa,

Here's the referenced shortcut dwg and shortcut files - alignment & surface, respectively.

Thanks,

Sandy W.

Thanks... that's what I will do. In addition, I've found that if you go into the profile properties and change the name slightly (add or take away a character) and apply, the labels reappear with customizations intact... weird

Sandy,

Post a screen shot of the profile label set that you'd use for this profile.

The labels are customized versions of what comes with Civ 3d.  The screenshot is attached.

Thanks for your help.

Ok, not sure what to tell you.  I can replicate it with your drawing and the Drefs.  But... when I create a drawing with my data Dreffed into a file, label it, close, reopen, the labels are still there.  I've attached a dwt (in progres) that you can use to test your data.  When I did a -purge and removed the registered applications, there were 55, some I wasn't familiar with, but didn't seem to resolve the issue.

Since this system won't allow dwt files, I changed the extension to dwg.

Probably not the answer you were looking for but I was playing around with your drawings & data and can recreate several scenarios.

First, I get the same results as you when starting, with the labels disappearing.

If you synchronize the alignment the labels come back (not realistic workaround in a production environment).

It appears (IMHO) it's a timing issue where the profile view is created and labeled before it gets done synchronizing the data shortcut info.

We don't have our alignments and profiles in separate drawings, that's why we don't have this problem.  I took and put them together in one drawing and DS them out to another drawing (based on your files) and they label and update correctly. Not that it helps because it might change your workflow until Autodesk fixes this but it might help shed some light on the problem.
