Rotated Raster Image Quality

Hey Everybody,

I am having a problem with a raster image of some ortho photography I have intserted into Civil 3D. The image appears fine until I go into Layout mode. 

It seems everytime I rotate the viewport with the raster images it makes the quality of the ortho appear as if it is a background image (it is not set as a background image and has 0% transparency.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Does it do the same thing with DVIEW TWist? Is Plot Transparency checked in your Page Setup?

It appears to be doing the same thing when DVIEW Twist is applied. 

and I have the plot transpareny turned off.

I have tried moving images to different layers as well, with no luck. As well as re-inserting the images.

Becoming a very long day.

Any other thoughts?

How are you bringing in the orthos and what kind of files are they? Have you tried bringing other images into the same drawing?

The files are .TIFF with the appropriate TFW,OVR and XML files that go with them.

Dunno. There are subtle differences between MAPIINSERT, MAPIMPORT, and MAPCONNECT that might be worth looking into.

I've noticed this problem in the past myself.  I've also noticed that sometimes the whole image seems to shift over a few feet when I rotate my view.  For whatever reason, though, the plots come out as expected, even if the display appears to be incorrect. Try plotting out the sheet (maybe as a PDF) to see if the image appears correctly on the plot.

I think I found solution to this but need to check service packs to see if this was addressed.  This is on OTB install of C3D 2014.

User only had Dview twist applied to viewport and the image turned on Transparancy for some reason, even though it's off in the variable settings.  If Dview twist was set back at 0 in that or other viewport the picture was fine again.  I fixed the problem with the messed up twisted viewports by doing the twist in Modelspace instead, this for some reason kept the transparancy toggle off in the PS twisted viewport.

User didn't like the 288° twist in Modelspace, they wanted to keep North up, so set the twist to something like 0.00000000001

Hope that helps.

I am also seeing this issue in my 2016 Civil 3D with up-to-date service packs and hotfixes loaded. The problem occurs when the display is rotated using DVIEW or other means in either model or layout through a viewport. The aerial tiff images that I have loaded turn transparent and where the edges of the images overlap it shows both transparently overlapping. The only solution I've found so far is to go to the TIFF file itself and remove the "Alpha Channel". I did this with Photoshop, but there may be other means to get it done. I searched online for "removing alpha channel from tiff" and found what I needed. After doing this the images remain opaque as they should and any overlap is unnoticeable.
