road design

Is there a limit on the length of road project that can be designed using Civil 3D.

I've not read of any set limit, but the more corridor you have the slower and less stable the drawing will become. I only speak from my own experience. Current Project has 6 miles of roads with 30 intersections and it's stable when doing anything other than working on the corridor.

Hi,

The length you can design is far less critical than the number of
cross-sections the program has to handle.

100 km of road with sections every km will require less computation than 1
km with sections every metre.

Another issue is that the alignment will go out of kilter with the fact that
the earth in not flat once it's length exceeds a few kilometres.

In the same sense, your surface model will be far more sensitive to the
number of triangles, than to the overall plan dimensions and elevation
range.
