Retainwallvertical Assembly Questions

I am using the subassembly 'retainwallvertical'. the help file says you can pick 3d polys, feature lines, etc. for targeting of the wall height. yet when i try to select one it is grayed out and I can only add a profile for wall height. It doesnt seem to be working correctly on the footing cover either. i have it set to 0.001 and I am getting about 1.5'. is it possible my alignment may not be directly on top (horz.) where the assembly ends? ideally i would like to select a 3d poly/FL for the wall height. any ideas? are the wall assemblies generally hard to work with?

In December, Subscription Support logged a report on the retaining wall
vertical sub not targeting correctly in 2010. It worked in previous
versions. If your on 2010 try putting some generic links together to form
the wall.

This feature still does not seem to be working properly in C3D 2012 either
