Why is this beneficial?

Re: Removing .dst from Recent Documents list

If AutoCAD used this list as a true recent file list this wouldn't be helpful. But it doesn't. Every time you open the program it forces just the sheet sets to the top of the list, even they haven't been used for months. Most of our Civil 3D design files are not a part of a sheet set, they are just a dwg file. After working on 25+ projects the list of sheet sets (dst) becomes quite long and you have to scroll down to the dwg files. And if your old-school and use the File pull-down (2009) they're not even on that list after opening 9 sheet sets. (gotta stop using that so I'm prepared for 2010)

If a project is finished and no longer necessary to have in the list it's going to be there for a long time. (maybe that's a good thing) but I like to get to my recent dwg files quickly.

I think this problem was introduced in 2009.

The STARTUP dialog is also a mess. I keep using it (with STARTUP=1), because I find it less annoying that constantly closing that useless "Drawing1.dwg" that C3D creates at startup if STARTUP=0. But the drawings in the Startup Dialog list in an apparently random order, with DST files mixed in, drastically impacting the usefulness of this feature. And the dialog box can't remember column widths between invocations, so I constantly have to stretch out the filename column so I can read my filenames. Still, I find it to be the less-annoying option, so I leave STARTUP=1.

OK, I'll admit that I may be needing glasses in my advancing age, but I sure
don't see the DST files being listed anywhere in the FixedProfile.aws in
2009 or 2010. Can you point me to where these files are stored, and where in
the files I can find the data?

Re: Removing .dst from Recent Documents list

On our systems (XP) they are located in:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Autodesk\C3D 2009\enu\Support\Profiles\FixedProfile.aws
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Autodesk\C3D 2010\enu\Support\Profiles\FixedProfile.aws

As far as the location in the file use the "Find" feature of the program you are using to edit.
In XML Notepad it's in the "Edit" pulldown menu.

OK, Thanks! I was able to locate them now in 2009. However, 2010 does not
store much of anything in that AWS file so I'm back to searching for where
this info is kept. Found them! In 2010 these are now stored in the
individual Profile.aws files for each Acad profile.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the tip on 2010 location. I hadn't tried finding any dst's in the 2010 files because we haven't started using it much for production work.

Sounds like typical AutoDesk to keep changing how everything works from release to release.

Am I wrong or can't you also clear the list under the menu browser (the big red C) -> Recent Document.
Right click any file and select "Clear recent documents list"

Wish it was that easy. This will clear the list for the current session, but if you close the program and reopen only the drawings will be gone. All the sheet sets you've opened in the past will still be there.
