Remove portion of a Surface

I have an existing topo surface. Within the perimeter of that existing surface I have an area of proposed surface which blends into the existing. I now want to create a pipe network which will start at a point below the existing surface (outside the perimeter of the proposed surface) and extend under the proposed surface. When I create the pipe network, it appears I can pick only one surface to associate with it. How do I create one surface from both the existing and the proposed and have the portion of the existing surface that lies within the proposed removed?

TIA

Wil

You need to make a new Surface.

1.  Paste the exisiting into the new surface.

2.  Paste your proposed surface into the above.

The order is important, last in takes precedence.
