Recovery with Grey Polylines

Some of the people in the office are experiencing some of there polylines turning grey after they recover their drawing. After manipulating the line in any way the color returns. However on a regen or reopen after saving the lines are still gray.

You can open the file on another computer and the color is normal. Both computers are identical in hardware. I can not seem to find any information on this topic.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

I was just having a similar problem except that I couldn't get the color back right with a REGEN or anything.

My solution ended up being kind of DUH! moment: Somehow, after the recover the transparency setting in properties got set to 50 so everything I did after the recover looked kind of dim. I don't remember changing the transparency, and I realize that it makes no sense for AutoCAD to have changed that just because of a recover, but that ended up being my problem. (I'm using Civil 3D 2012 by the way.)

It's kind of like car trouble I guess, you know, the first thing you should do is be sure that there is gas in it...

I am having this problem too.  I cannot seem to get my lines to have the color they should have.  They are grey and Iam about to lose it here.  Please provide any follow-up.

Chris,

See Pat's solution above (if you are indeed having the same problem). Set the transparency of all objects (apart from those you do want transparent) to 0.

After about a month of tinkering with the drawing it was deemd that our computers just weren't strong enough the handle the recovery process.

Old Computers:

Core i5 2.67 GHZ

Nvidia Quadro FX 580

8 GB Dual Channel RAM

Windows 7 Professional

Civil 3D 2011 Version 2

New Computers:

Core i7 3.4 GHZ

Nvidia Quadro 2000

16 GB Dual Channel Ram

Windows 7 Professional

Civil 3D 2011 Version 2

After about 2 Months with the new computers no one has experienced this issue to my knowldge.

Chris what are the specs on your computer?

It may be our computers, they are

AMD IIX4 640 Processor 3.0 Ghz

4GM memory

Windows 7 64 bit

Civil 3D 2012 service pack 1

So i found a work around, i just added all the stuff that was turning grey into a block and it worked.  I never had any luck resetting the transparancy.

I still am not sure if my computers are to slow or if this is a bug.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Hi TLITTLE15,

I have seen similar behavior if Default settings in Map Task Pane is set. Please see following image and see if you can play with this toggle. (To access task pane, type MAPWSPACE and On).

It may be worth a try.

Almas-

This is indeed the case with me, I was working in planning and analysis mode combining AutoCAD lines and GIS entities and had the map base set to default.  What is the alternative to the default map base? Can one create a template map base without this problem or do we simply leave it unchecked and not have any map base?  Thanks!

Thank you. That was the problem. We never even thought about checking that.
