Recovery by Alt - F4

I wanted to relate something that just happened to me.

I was trying something to help a recent poster. I was editing a Surface Style and was going to change the Surface Point Display.

When I hit the ellipsis button on the right [...] the program froze. I tried all the trick I knew with no result. I wouldn't have lost much just ending the program but I'm stubborn.

What finally occurred to me was to hit Alt - F4, the keyboard combo for Close. I got to thinking that another dialog had opened behind the first one and if I could close it I might get control back. and I did.

I've duplicated this a couple of times to make sure it wasn't a fluke. I also found that I only had the problem when the Style editor was on my second screen. If I moved it to the first screen there was no problem.

Thought this might help someone some day.

Thanks Allen, good info.

Did you discover what the other dialog was?  Was it there behind the surface style editor on the second screen?

Did you try the Alt+space M, arrow key, mouse trick to get it to 'snap' to the mouse?

It wasn't exactly another dialog. It's more like a flyout palette. I don't know the exact term for it.

Alt+space M doesn't seem to work because it isn't an independent Dialog.

Thought one of these tricks might have sorted out the Quick profile bug - but no luck..perhaps they'll have fixed it in 2014..Smiley Frustrated
