My recent documents list (C3D 2011) is full of dst files - how can I reset it??

Hi neily,
Can you elaborate where do yuo see that list/ Is it within Civil 3D or from Start?
In Civil 3D Options menu>Open and Save tab there is place where you can set number of recently opened files. If you just want to remove DST files you would have to exit out of Civil 3D, locate the DST files and delete them. While still in Civil 3D see where the location of the DST files are.
I'd look in C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\C3D 2011\enu\Recent and see if there were Links to the DST files that could be eliminated.

Almas, this is crazy! Seriously, you are suggesting to delete DST files? Why would anyone want to delete their SheetSet files? Yes, the recently used files fills with theh DST files which has friven everyone nuts for years. And there's no easy way to remove them (even deleting the DST files will not rmove them from the recent files list). What's worse, is that they don't roll out even after not accessing a dst for months, it will still show up as recently used, leaving just 3 or 4 spots for DWG files.
This is a screen capture from my C3D2010 install. The first 4 MRU files listed are files that no longer exist...and I deleted them about 2 years ago, shortly after installing 2010. Many of the other files listed haven't been accessed in nearly a year. My MRU setting is 25, note that 23 of these are used by DST's, leaving just 2 for dwg's.
Jimmy Bergmark has posted some ideas on this, but I haven't tried these on the newer versions....http://blog.jtbworld.com/2008/09/clear-sticky-sheet-sets-from-recent.html
In my experience, the Recent Docs list has been broken since the 2009 release (the 2008 release was the last one where it worked correctly).
I've seen various tips on the web for how to get rid of those .DST files, but I haven't found anything that really works. The list of recent.DST files seems to be stored in multiple places... I think there's something that re-adds DST files to the Recent Docs list from the Sheet Set Manager, or something like that. I never did spend enough time on it to figure out what was going on.
It's definitely been frustrating, having something that should be as simple as the Recent Docs list be broken for multiple releases... I haven't checked 2012 yet to see if anything has been fixed.
How bazaar is that... I just came to the board because I encountered the very same thing

I have seen many cases were customers wanted to remove DST files which do came back if Civil 3D is still running. So my suggestion how to remove them was in that light. I was not even sure if that is the intent. Obviously this is not the issue neilyj is having. Sorry if I confused soem of you.
I found that you may manually remove the item by right-clicking on it. It is manual process but it works. See image:
I'm getting exactly what Jeff_M is getting.
I have recently been creating/testing sheet sets so I have a lot of temporary/test dst files that could be deleted without any worry. I'll take a look at the link too

Oh wait, you're in the Windows Start menu...
I can remove the DST files from there, but it has no effect on the Recent Docs list inside of C3D. The DST files are still in there.
And as I just discovered, DST files might magically reappear in that list for no apparent reason.... I deleted the DST files from the Start menu for C3D 2011, but the next time I started C3D, the DST files appeared in the list again for no apparent reason.
Let me check around to see where that list may be residing. Stay tuned.

OK, the DST files get re-added to the list when the SSM is opened. If the SSM is docked to the side and set to auto-hide, you'll see the DST files reappear in the Windows Startup list during C3D's startup. Otherwise, they reappear the first time you open the SSM.

Hi all,
Talking to the members of AutoCAD team I am finding that this issue is reported to the development as a core AutoCAD issue. No information when or will it be fixed any time soon. BTW, The recent file list is stored in registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R18.1\ACAD-9000:409\Recent File List.
The best thing to do here is to pin recent drawings so that they do show up. Hopefully this will push DST files down the list.
Nice bug.....could quickly make the recent documents list pretty pointless...!?!?!?!

Very irritating bug but no solution - here's hoping for Civil 3D 2013...........
