Purging Surface Edits

Generated some surface edits where TIN lines were deleted.

Now I would like to purge the edits from the surface definition.

In surface properties I can selective or collectively remove the deleted line
Edits.

Delete option will remove the TIN line from the surface definition. When I right
click the Deleted Line from the Item View, not what I want to do.

How do I purge them from the surface definition and keep the surface intact?

Mark,

I'm not sure what you mean by "Purge them from the definition", but my
guess is that you want to remove the record that an edit was made, but
preserve the triangulation in it's edited form.

The general philosophy with surface objects is to keep a record of what
was done to the surface so that when it is rebuilt, you get exactly the same
result as if you had done all of the steps one by one. When you remove
items from the definition in the surface properties dialog, you should get a
confirmation dialog when you exit. If you answer "No" to rebuild the
surface, the triangulation will stay as you've edited it.

You'll notice that if you do this, however, the surface icon will be
marked as "dirty" to remind you that if the surface is rebuilt it won't look
the same as it currently does.

Chris,

Yes and no.

I do want to remove (purge) the edit record to restore the original surface
definition.

What I have are historical edit records that are not representative of my
current surface.

Are you looking for a way to remove all of the edits at once, without
individually selecting them in the surface properties dialog, so that your
surface will go back to the way it was before you started editing it?

If so, it looks like there is supposed to be a way to do this through
prospector, but it doesn't look like it is quite working. If it was, it
would be something like this:
1) Expand the surface definition, and go to the "Edits" folder.
2) A list of all the edits should show up in prospectors "View" window.
3) Select them all, right-click and choose delete

Unfortunately, it looks like only one of them is getting deleted (instead of
everything that's selected). Otherwise, this would allow you to easily
separate the "Edits" from other data operations so that you don't
accidentally delete base data.

It also seems like a "select all" or "delete all" option on the "Edits"
folder would simplify this task.

I also noticed a problem in the properties dialog when using SHIFT-
arrow> and SHIFT- to multi select.

Does this answer your question, or am I still misunderstanding the problem?

At any rate, I'll write up the problems I've found...

Chris,

You got it right. Good catch on the multiple select.

My fault, I thought the delete in the Edit list would actually delete the
deleted line not restore it back to the surface. I didn't notice the surface
build indicator and once rebuilt the lines are restored. I was concentrating on
the graphics and the Edit List.

Just want to get this straight.
All edits auto-rebuild.
Edit List edits require a rebuild unless Rebuild-Automatic is on.

Chris,

I've been getting:

AutoCAD Error-abort - Error handler re-entered. Exiting now.

Chris,

I found the trigger.

I have six Swap Edge edits.

If I Rebuild the surface after they have all been erased, CRONSH!

If I erase one edit, rebuild, erase one, rebuild....it will work.

Another thing that led me to believe that the surface was rebuilding itself was
all the gyration occurring on the status bar when I was deleting from the Edit
list, of course I was wrong.

Have you noticed delays when selecting the Surface collection? I have collapsed
the Item View where the preview of the surface displays, but that doesn't help.

I haven't had a chance to repeat this, but I'll write it up...
