Profile Style Questions

Hi all,

I'm now playing with profiles and (of course) have questions:

I'm trying to cusomize the profiles to look like what we presently use in
LDT (wonder why C3D doesn't include a style to show the way it used to look
in LDT). I've attached a sample of what I've done so far with it.

1. I want the title to have 2 different text heights, one for the actual
title (L120) and one for the scales(L100). I believe I have to create child
objects of this in order to do that but I'm not 100% sure.

2. Where is the setting(s) that controls the box around the elevations?
Right now it is white and I cannot find any layer to manipulate that.

3. If I only have EG right now, shouldn't there be only one set of
elevations showing instead of the two as shown?

4. Where is the setting to control that text? I played with turning off
layers for the Top, Right, Left and Bottom, but cannot find where that stuff
comes from. Is it associated with the alignment; i.e. do I have ot manipule
that text?

Sorry for the beginner questions, but we all had to start somewhere! 🙂

Here's the PDF of the House of Style class that was essentially the Profile
Views Styles Lab at AU. It covers most of the things you're after.

On the title, you don't have to create children, you have to add more
components to the label that's being used. This will let you adjust the
height independently.

Thanks.

I've had the same issue with item number one as well. The style allows for one component for the title and thus, one opportunity to define a text height for all the text in the title. (see PDF, bottom of page 5)

As an alternative I've been including the scale in the labels for horizontal and vertical axis . (Station: 1"=40') (Elevation: 1"=4')

A perfect solution. Didn't even notice that you couldn't add another
component.

Oops.

Perfect James! The last page is espeically INVALUABLE to me! I knew I should
have taken that class! Too many good ones to choose from They need to throw
some crappy ones in there so its a 'no-brainer' LOL

James et al,

Your paper answered all except my question as to why there are two sets of
elevations showing on my profile when I only have one surface (EG). If you
take a look at my attached file, you can see what I mean. Also, is there a
setting that will emulate the Datum block more elegantly than what appeared
on the LDT profiles?

Thanks!

The profile band has the ability to show information from two profiles, (usually and existing and a proposed). The band calls these out as 'profile(1)' and a 'profile(2)'. The band is controlled by a band style and within the band style there is a styles for labels at major, minor, etc. stations. These station styles can be set to pull information from either profile (1 or 2), or both.

Therefore ... you have one surface, the band refs that surface as both profiles, one and two, and the station style in the band style is displaying info for one and two.

Solution? Make a new style that doesn't take any info for a second profile.

Of all the style settings in C3D I think this is the most convoluted of all. These band stationing label styles are buried so absurdly deep in the style structure.

Thanks for your help too (didn't mean to leave you out of the loop)
I'll get my spelunking boots and dig deeper into that style. 😉

You may want to watch the webcast from Sept. 9, 2005 entitled "Autodesk Civil 3D Profile and Section Bands".

I dug deep looking for a solution to this.  I tried to create a new band style but don't see any option for a second profile info.  I'm basically trying to get rid of the second set of elevations on the band.  Unfortunetely the website that is listed doesn't work anymore.  Ideas?

It's normally not good practice to resurrect a 7 year old thread.....if need be, link back to it in your new thread.

When you create a new band style it will have just one profile elevation component...just as you want. The second profile text component would have to be added if needed.

Sorry about pulling up an old thread.  Thanks for the help.  It took me a few tries.  I got it by playing around with it.  Now I guess I just need to keep tinkering with it.
