Profile Bands

I keep getting this message in the Event Viewer.

This profile view has data bands that require appropriate features(profile1,
profile2 etc...) to be associated. Please set them through bands tab of
profile view properties dialog.

I currently have only profile data in my band. Is this message telling me I
need to have entries for all of the other componets (vertical geom.,
horizontal geom.,etc.) with a hidden style?

In the bands tab, scroll to the right and you will see profile 1, profile
2. This is where you want to designate the different profiles

profile 1 = existing ground
profile 2 = finished ground

John,

In addition to LM's comment, the reason you're getting this message is because you're creating a PV without any Profiles at all. If you created the PV after having created a Profile from a surface or having imported one via data shortcut, then that (those) profile(s) would be used to populate the data bands. However, since there's none available to populate the bands, Civil 3D gives you that message so's you don't forget.

Thanks for the info folks, I'll start digging into this soon. I'm a bit
perplexed about creating PV's without profiles. I use the Create From
Surface command and I get everything set in the Create Profile from Surface
dialog and hit the Draw in Profile View button to create the view. Is this
procedure flawed?

John:

Somewhere between "Create from Surface" and "Draw in Profile" you should
select the surface you want drawn.

Hello Bill.

The surface was selected prior to drawing and the surface name appears in
the lower pane of the dialog. I always had a profile/surface showing in the
view. No blank views here.

Just wait until you get round to creating a FG profile in C3D John!

I'm having to forget most of what I know re. Civil Design's Edit Vertical
Alignment.

I especially do not care for the methodology of the "previous" PVI getting
it's elevation revised., as I change the profile's next grade.

Though I'm fairly sure I'm working on the "Dark Side", and undoubtedly need
to run through some more tutorials. 😉

Don:

Have you tried using the panorama screen? Works easier for me.

Don,

I agree with Bill, fine tune it all in the panorama. Forget the LDT
processes for now. They have given me a few battle scars.

I wish I'd checked the DG while I was at home last night. 😞

I'm thinking that's what I was in over the weekend, but I'll need to check
again tonight to make sure.

OK it wasn't the Panorama I was in, it was the Profile Grid View.

And where pray tell might I find the Panorama you're both discussing - for
Profiles I mean?

TIA
