Profile Bands

This might be a stupid question for those that have had the training or some
sort help (in this part of the world there is no training available). My
question is:

Profile Bands - Road or Corridor design

Is it possible to have a band/s that is offset from road centre line left
and right say 3.0 / 3.5 meters or any other distance - not necessary at the
kerb? If so how do I set the band information.

I have Civil 3D 2007 SP 2

Your help is much appreciated

I might be missing something, but are you talking about profile offsets?
If so, yes, when you create a profile from an alignment, you have the
option to sample offsets.

If not, can you post an example?

Oh, and trust me - as long as planes can land and you have electricity,
you have training available 😉

Have lab will travel.

Is that gonna be added to the business cards?

The world is not FLAT so why is your GIS data?

Hi Jason

What I'm looking for is say finished road levels at the centre line, 3m left
and 3m right. I hope I have explained my self better this time.

Yes will be added to the business cards. I'm in South Africa. Cost is a big
thing

Once you create your road surface, you can sample that one with the
desired offsets - not perfect, mind you, but it's an option.

And you never mentioned cost 😉 Me & my lab don't travel cheaply 😉

Not nearly as cheaply as mine...and I have a current passport, 'bama boy.

Are you looking for a three-line profile, or just sample data from a
propososed surface? Are the offsets labeled as true vertical design or just
drawn?

This is what I'm looking for

1) The profile of the existing surface at say 20m intervals.

2) The centre line of the vertical alignment at the same intervals

3) Levels on the vertical alignment at an offset from the centre line left
and right taking into account the superelevation at that point - no
necessary at the kerb edge also at the same intervals.

Sounds like a three-line profile to me...could you post a sample picture by
any chance?

And is South Africa still doing some odd thing with a reversed coordinate
system with a left-hand rule instead of right? or was that all balderdash?

James

I have attached a sample of what I'm after.

Here in South Africa with the local programs (Civil Designer & Model Maker -
you set the coordinated system you what to use) and we don't have any
problems with the coordinate systems no matter where you are in the world.
But with Autodesk products we have to play around and rotate every thing
about 0,0 180° - this means that the coordinate signs the wrong. Even when
we set the coordinate system in Map 3D or Civil 3D to the South African
systems. We like north to face up.

The TechnoCad products for AutoCad take the rotation and coordinate signs
into account.
