problems for alignment from polyline (change radius, show PI extension lines, automatic label for PI No)

1. How can I change the curves radii for alignment generated by polylines?
2. What is the RAM amount to computer to work on Civil 3D?
3. I made alingment from profile but when I try to change curve radius, it
took sometime to change and sometimes it stops and civil3d crashes. Why?
4. How can I show extension lines for that alignment from polyline?
5. How can I place label for the PI (points of Intersections) for alignment
to show the PI No. automatically with Easting, Northing Coordinates of PI
and curve characteristecs: R, L, T, Delta, External secant at the same PI?

Thank you.

1. don't create from polylines.
2. recommend 2GB
3. confused on the question.
4. see 1
5. you can do 90% of that with a tangent intersection label.

That's my valuable insight... take it or leave it.

if not from plines, then how? i have been cautioned against this method of alignment creation (maybe even from you) but as a user 'learning as i go' i do not know of a better way.

Why not just use your plines as tangents to lay out your alignments?(This
step is probably not necessary) Then use "Create by Layout" and snap to
your P.I. points.

very good, thanks bill! i will give it a shot on my next project.

Drawing PI to PI will also assure that your alignment doesn't inherit any unneeded geometry from the polyline. (like added points at the PC or PT of a curve)

... I wonder why there isn't a PI osnap ..... ???

I like to tell people this trick...

while learning Civil 3D- go ahead and do linework using polylines or lines then fillet, but turn your FILLET trim OFF, so that your PIs stay behind.

Then- do alignment by layout and snap to your construction lines.

then erase construction lines.

I personally had a hard time thinking PI to PI. I had always thought- tangent-fillet-tangent-fillet.

And there is nothing more frustrating that trying to eyeball a PI from old linework.

(of course i have never been fond of the apparent intersection osnap which is likely 95% of my problem 🙂 )
