Polyline in Civil3d

I use to be able to create a polyline in Civil3d, but now when I attempt to create one it only shows up as a horizontal line and even though it allows me to snap to points vertically, the line only add the horizontal component to my polyline.  Is there a setting that needs to be changed or has my civil 3d file become corrupt somehow?  Thanks for the help

A polyline by definition is only a 2D object - if you want to add a 3rd dimension to it, you can create a 3D polyline (3DPOLY) or better yet, a feature line.
