Good morning!  Here's my issue in Civil 3D 2014:

Have set up different layers & color for different points.  (V-NODE-EP, V-NODE-SS, V-NODE-TREE, etc.)

Have set up a description key set with the surveyor's code, created a style, created a point label, $*, and these layers.

When points are inserted, they do land on the proper layer, but take on the color of layer V-NODE & V-NODE-TEXT.

Where have I gone wrong?

What are the individual "Point Style" layers set to?

Review layering within the Point Styles display tab.

They are set to V-NODE & V-NODE-TEXT.

I thought that was a default for descriptions that didn't have a home.

Those which have no home are determined by Command and Feature Setting "Default" Point & Point Label styles specified.

I just located the command setting for points which have no home.

Taking baby steps here...  🙂

Ok, think I've found my way...

Each individual point style needs to be set to layer 0, with color "By Block".

Then label style text color needs to be set to "By Block" also.

It's working like I want it......
