You might want to explore Point Groups and display order - this will
eliminate the changing of the drawing scale. You can have one group that
turns off the labels for when you are doing all the zooming and panning, and
then make that top of the display order - all points then have the labels
turn off. When done, you move to the bottom of the display order and all
point go back to the way they were.

That solves the problem of the point itself, but doesn't solve the label
size issue. This has always been one of my personal gripes with the switch
from LDT to C3D, because one of the first things that I want to do after
importing survey data is to zoom and pan around looking for bad linework
coding errors etc. Some areas of the survey have points spread out over a
large area while others have them packed closely together. It was nice to
be able to quickly zoom in on an area using the wheel mouse, do a quick
regen to examine the points, then zoom back out to the larger picture.
One workaround that I have found is to change the drawing scale temporarily,
to something that makes the point labelling text small enough to work with
then change it back after I have finished editing the survey data.
