Point size relative to screen - Like LDD

Can I make my point sizes relative to the screen, like in LDD? I have not seen such an option yet, just wonder if it exists. If it does not, what do you guys do? Make all your points so tiny you spend the day zooming in and out?

Have you tried these options yet?

That solves the problem of the point itself, but doesn't solve the label size issue. This has always been one of my personal gripes with the switch from LDT to C3D, because one of the first things that I want to do after importing survey data is to zoom and pan around looking for bad linework coding errors etc. Some areas of the survey have points spread out over a large area while others have them packed closely together. It was nice to be able to quickly zoom in on an area using the wheel mouse, do a quick regen to examine the points, then zoom back out to the larger picture.

One workaround that I have found is to change the drawing scale temporarily, to something that makes the point labelling text small enough to work with then change it back after I have finished editing the survey data.

You might want to explore Point Groups and display order - this will
eliminate the changing of the drawing scale. You can have one group that
turns off the labels for when you are doing all the zooming and panning, and
then make that top of the display order - all points then have the labels
turn off. When done, you move to the bottom of the display order and all
point go back to the way they were.

Yes but if he is looking for crossing linework etc he is going to need the
desc to see what the points were coded. Nice try though.

this may or may not be longer/shorter than what you do now, but you could
try...

making an object style called "small points" and a label style called "small
points" that you size absolute.

By default, make the "All Points" group the top of the stack for point
groups in your template that you use for this invesigation and make the
small styles what it uses.

When you import, they will look like all points

when you are done you can move all points back down to the bottom of the
stack and everything will look "normal"

So this only works for the POINT and not the LABEL? If just the point resizes it more or less useless because I can not read the point, I can change the point style and make it small but then I spend all day zooming in and out.

yeah, the one in the point object style only changes the point object part.
you could make the point label respond to view, but then you need to mess
with drawing scale.

maybe try my all_points group suggestion post and see if that doesn't work-
it won't be quite the same as you are used to , but once you set it up
(approx setup time, 3 mins) it just takes a sec to activate/deactivate.

let me know if you need some screen captures on setup and i can post to my
blog.

Dana, how many point groups do you run with? I use a seperate one for every survey point code, which means that I have to click the up/down button about 90 times to get a point group from the top of the list to the bottom.
Dan, Phil, et al. - A one button option to move a point group to the top or bottom of the list is going to be my next posting on the wishlist group.

i can tolerate about 10 point groups before i go to using desckeys.

so i guess my solution would not be very fast in your situation. shoot!
sorry..... if i think of something else i shall post.

Will we see LABEL resizing in a near future release? (like the next one) Or am I going to have to find a work around to use forever?
