POINT LABEL STYLE

When I import point from PNEZD file and use the description keys to bring in my blocks for each point style. My point number, elevation and description are all on the same layer. My goal is to have them on a separate layer, so I can turn them off individually, say point number. I know I can turn them off thru the label style composer, by stating visible, true or false. I even spent time on the text component editor label. I have been trying this for days. Any help, would be apreciated. Thanks.

You have a couple of options.

Use point groups and the group hierarchy to control which point label
style controls. (It's not layer control but it beats turning off
visibilitiy)
Use general note labels to reference the Point Number, and a separate
Point Description and move them to a a separate layer.

I don't think you can use a point label and move the components of that
label onto separate layers.

I recently had to get to know how to do this. Its pretty straight forward once you get going. My advice is to use the tutorial on creating point groups in your help file of Civil3D. You can see it online too:

If it's any consolation, after getting used to C3D's way of handling points, I have NEVER wanted to use layers to globally control visibility of Point Number, Elevation, and Description again.

That was pretty standard when we were using Softdesk-style point blocks, and LDT-style points. But C3D points are actually better. It just takes some adjustment to the new paradigm.

Here is a AWESOME training site.....

I also got the Book Mastering Autocad Civil 3D 2010

The enterprise membership and the book cost
the company $250.

Best $250 I've talked them into spending yet.

Robert,

Thanks so much!

The tutorials for this are located as follows:

SUR107 Point Settings: Label Used to Label Symbol (e.g. Water Meter, Water Valve)
This video walks through setting up a description key to cover the following scenario: Need to place text near a symbol, but want the flexibility to control the placement of the text – such is the case with a water valve labeled "WV," or a water meter labeled "WM." Ideally, you want the WM or WV label placed above their respective symbols to be movable via grips. This tutorial shows you how.
