Plotting Live Map in Civil3D 2014?

Is there a way to plot the live map to a pdf from acad?

Once its loaded, it will not appear in plot preview.

It doesnt matter whether i am in paperspace or model space.

Any ideas?

neilyj is correct. Those maps were designed for preview purposes only.

its a good tool, but if you can't print the map, then its not totally functional.

Autodesk needs to make that available.

Doubt that's gonna happen any time soon.....it's all down to cash I'd guess, Micro$oft wanted $$$$$$$$$$$$$ but Autodesk would only pay $$$...hence no printing

In the meantime, you cant insert a Google Image or Google Surface from Google Earth any more.

...for the same reasons as I mentioned earlier but substituting Google for Micro$oft

(Tongue-in-cheek, yet entirely accurate comment coming)

It's an easy fix. Just pay for some ortho photos. You'll be able to print then.

There are a lot of ortho photos that are downloaded for free from various US state GIS websites.

We use them all the time.

The issue is that these files are normally large files and ACAD tends to bog down when you need to load multiple tiles. Also, not all states have current orthos available.

There are also WMS sites that many states have that allow you to link to the orthos and plot them similiar to Live Map feature on ACAD2014. The issue with the WMS sites is that it times out alot and you need to wait for the photo to adjust.

The Live Map feature works a lot smoother than the WMS sites that i've worked on in the past but you can't plot the image.

You could down-res those orthos to make them manageable. Careful though. Your world file will not work after. Raster Design can down-res AND keep the world file in sync.
