Pipes & Sample VBA

Was I dreaming or is there a fix for the sample VBA routine
importing/exporting pipes to Excel?

It works, it's just not useful for much.

I found it simpler to cut and paste from Prospector.

I personally have become hooked on Hydroflow since I can LandXML out and back in.

I just have a few clients who really dig their own home grown mannings spreadsheets.

This sounds so dumb of me, but I never tried pasting into prospector. I cut all the time to make spreadsheets and quantity tables. I shall try that tomorrow.

Thanks to all. As it turns out the VBA routine failed only on machines with
the Boot Camp beta. It worked fine on one of my training machines tonight in
our User Group meeting.

I wrote a spreadsheet that performs much of my H&H work (Manning's for the
hydraulics and the Rational Method for the hydrology) and is formatted to be
included in my plans. So the sample VBA was my "missing link" for Pipes.

I simply lay out the route, perform my H&H work, and use the results to
automatically size and label my pipe networks.

I have a machine specifically for betas but I loaned it out for Boot Camp. I
was holding out with my regular machine until the last minute in hopes my
NFR would arrive. It's overdue a wipe-down anyway. Thanks again.

Let me know if I can help you out, Dana.

Bah, not from Prospector, from Panorama. From the tabular view of the pipes,
etc. Since you can move columns as needed, and turn off what you don't want
to see, you can create the perfect cut and paste link between C3D and Excel
based entries, just like it says in the H&H white paper on Adesk's site....

I didn't see anything in the white paper about pasting into the Panorama. I know you can paste and or edit some of the values individually, but the VBA application is supposed to allow the Excel spreadsheet to update the actual pipes in the drawing without having to go through the very time consuming individual pipe and structure editing.
Has anyone been able to get that to work?

Pasting OUT of panorama. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I wasn't nitpicking, just a little frustrated - sorry. I saw your posting as a small straw of hope which I was trying to grasp. I am working on making my drawing match my drainage and sanitary designs. It would be nice if that VBA app would work. I would've been done days ago.

Mike seems to be able to get it to work... maybe he could post the procedure?

Sorry for the delay. Too much fun in the sun.

1. type VBARUN on the command line
2. Pick VBAMANAGER
3. pick LOAD and browse to C:\Program Files\Autodesk Civil 3D
2006\Sample\Civil 3D API\Vba\Pipe
4. pick Pipe Sample Application.dvb (patience...the three sample apps do not
appear yet)
5. close
6. rt-clk to repeat VBARUN (three sample applications appear in the dialog)
7. pick C:\Program Files\Autodesk Civil 3D 2006\Sample\Civil 3D
API\Vba\Pipe\Pipe Sample Application.dvb!ExportToExcel and RUN (Excel
launches automatically and is populated with your pipe data. Be patient. It
may take a minute.)
8. Edit the spreadsheet values (example: PipeInnerDiameter) It is not
necessary to save or exit the spreadsheet.
9. In the drawing, pick C:\Program Files\Autodesk Civil 3D 2006\Sample\Civil
3D API\Vba\Pipe\Pipe Sample Application.dvb!ImportFromExcel and RUN. Pipe
network updates based on edited spreadsheet.

Reminder: all machines failed with beta installs.

Thanks Mike,
Geez, don't you sleep!
I was afraid that you would post the steps that you did. I've done that before, and I always get a VBA runtime error - overflow. Maybe someday I'll spend the time to master VB and figure out what's not working and why.
Thanks for your help - especially so late on a Sunday night!

At what point do you get the error? Exporting? Importing? No beta installs?
There is a confirmed bug in this process but I'm waiting details and a fix.
I will follow up and report here.
