pipe structures in profile

How can I display my pipe structures in profiles as just the inside diamater of the stucture? without the wall or floor thickness? I just need a outline of the structure.. not a side view of a 3d object. similar to what LDD pipes would draw.

also this one has a capture of the structure object style window that might
help you as well.

If you select the Structure in Profile, right click and select Edit
Structure Style. Select the Profile tab, and choose the option to "display
as Boundary" will that get you what you're after?

Its not the inside of the structure, but on outline of it.

Anthony, Is it possible for the user to spec a wall thickness of 0 to simulate the inside structure dimensions?

you should since you can spec a thickness of zero for the bottom. See my
blogpost on eliminating the pseudo-sump

Yes, you could edit the part definition to include a part size that uses a
zero wall thickness, but I don't think that would get him what he's looking
for here. So remind me again how structures are sized in the real world -
when you order a 48" manhole, is that 48" ID or OD?

dude, when you order a manhole they pretty much ignore your order and bring
the wrong thing onsite and then the contractor makes it work. cough.

but in the idealized real world, you order by ID. At least I do.

As far as I know it's always been by inside dimensions.

I was just thinking that the OP wanted to shown as it's inside dimensions and you stated the software can currently show the boundary of the structure based on it's outside dimensions .... so if the walls and floor have no thickness, then the outside is the same as the inside.

I was having trouble with 2006 mh's and made a block that worked real well.
AFAIK, it still works OK with 2007.

Dana,

I been trying to follow the blog regarding the "Showing and Labeling Pipe from Structure to Structure "

When I edit structure style and go to the profile tab I don't have the 3 choices "display as solid, display as boundary", "display as block"

I only have 2 choices "use outer part boundary & display as block"

I am still using civil 3d 2006 btw.

when using a block for the structure is it possible to keep the diameter or width of the strucure fixed & only stretch the structure in the vertocal direction?

here is what I did in 2006

draw a quick block that matched the shape of my MH in profile

use the display as block

make sure you pick the choice that resizes to the model's invert. I don't
have 06 open right now so I forget exactly what the wording was.

How can I keep the witdh or dimmeter of my structure constant? if I use a block with a fixed scale from part size every manhole is drawn at a little different diameter.
