Pipe Labels

1. Why is the slope negative? I have tried Reversing the Flow on the pipe.

2. Is there a way to force the structure label to remain vertical (90 deg
rotation) in a dragged state?

Hi John,

It's labeling it as negatice because that is the slope. I believe the slope is calculated in the direction of flow and since it's flowing down, it has a negative slope. You can have the label style drop the negative sign if you wish.

As far as the dragged state rotation goes, I haven't looked into much but there doesn't seem to be a rotation factor for the dragged state. Perhaps someone else will know.

It looks like the slope is being calculated based on the direction the pipe was created in. Flipping the flow direction only seems to change which end is considered the 'start' and 'end'. I changed it and it had no effect on the slope. Physically swapping the ends of the pipe did. But, as previously stated you can have the label drop the sign.

As for the structure label style, yes, it can go vertical. You'll need a structure label style just for use in a profile view to do it. I started the style with a vertical line with the start end anchored to the structure at the label location and the end anchored to the structure at the structure dimension. Anchor the text components to this line. Set the drag mode to 'as composed'. You'll get three grips on this label. Between the triangle an square grips you should be able to accommodate most situations. The square sets a horizontal move and the angle point. The triangle does a vertical move. (see attached pic)

I can send you this style in a drawing if you wish.

Thanks again folks.

Forgot to quote Homer for this one, "It's labeling it as negative because
that is the slope".

"Doh"

Simpson of course, not the Greek.

I would love to get a copy of that as well. I've been racking my brain trying to duplicate your style.
