Pipe Label dimesion

I want to create a pipe label that is similar to a dimension style going from end of pipe to end of pipe. I tried making a line component and an expression theat uses the length of pipe but cannot get the start and end points correct. And ideas?

I tried something like that a while ago. It looked great in a straight length of road, but it didn't work around the corners. Problem is that when the pipe is not parallel to the alignment the actual length of the pipe is not the length that it is drawn at in profile view.

The label in the blog post is a pipe label and the length of the pipe is taken from the pipe directly so it always gives the correct length.

That is what I am looking for. two more questions

why does the expression get half the length?

how do I get it anchored to the pipe end?

I got it. I used the negative or half the pipe length in the x offset.

This is for an unconventional use not a pipe. I was lookint for a way to project cross street names to the profile and be dynamic to alignment and profile changes. I started with a single cogo point projection but prefer to show the street witdth with the name. So I make a dummy pipe network, name thepipes the street names and I have it. I like it. thanks

I tried to download the sample drawing which contains the label style, but the link does not work. Does anyone have a copy they could email to me? Please?
