Pipe Dimension

Ok,

Looking at the Label Style Composer for pipes in plan profile, what is the
Pipe Dimension as an anchor point? I couldn't fine and info in the help
files so I thought I would ask here. See the attached imag for more info.

Thanks

Not sure how to describe it but I'll give it a try ...

It's a vertical location or offset from the label anchor location. It's only used by the profile labels. I've only used it for structure labels in a profile as you can specify the 'dimension' as an elevation, or a distance above of below the label anchor point. This value is set once the label is placed (edit it's properties), or as a default in a labelling command settings.

I sent you a drawing back on 3/2/07 with a structure label style that uses this feature. The 'dimension' shows as a triangular grip when you select a label that uses it.

Thanks for the reply. I familiar with its use in structure labels but, I
can't seem to do anything with it for a pipe. I was wanting to create a
style that would label the pipe with dimension entities similar to a
vertical curve label.

Ahh. Well, its kinda the same thing, just for pipes though.

I've tried to do that dimension thing too but I never got it to work. I could never get anything to go horizontal. It always ended up being sloped like the pipe, or worse. I tried starting two lines from the ends of a flow direction arrow set at the center of a pipe and then ending them at the pipe 'dimension'. I thought they would go from the ends to a point below the ends (same elevation using a 'fixed' dimension) ... no go, they ended at a common point below the mid-point of the pipe. Doh!. I gave up after that.

i am not 100% sure, but a few months ago when i wrote our pipe chapter, i am pretty sure i figured out that those neato grippy zippy labels can only be made for structures. but i am not 100% sure. seems like pipes don't have an understanding of the profile view presence like structures do.

prove me wrong brian, and i will buy you more free beers at AU than you can drink.
