Performance problems after using central library location

We have big performance issues after using a central library location for blocks, lisp, linestyles etc.

Nothing fancy.

This location is in our WAN enviroment.

The only difference is that we have changed five search paths from a LAN located library (zeven local servers) to a WAN location (one centralised server). When we use the old profile with the LAN search paths everything works fine. When switching over to the new profiles with the WAN search paths the performance drops dramatically.

For instance opening drawings in the old profile opens in seconds and in the new profile takes over 10 minutes.

What is AutoCAD doing? The performance monitor shows no activity at all.

I crushed my brains but can not find any reasson for AutoCAD to do something with the paths and objects while opening a drawing.

Any thoughts or suggestions out there?

Hi,

>> [...] changed five search paths [...]

Have you verified:

1) transfer speed to that server (copy a file with 10Mb to the LAN-server and compare the copy-time with WAN-server-copy)

2) check also security and read-only status, sometimes reduced access-rights could result in performance lacks.

3) If you changed 5 paths to get the problem, try to change them separately. So reset them to "fast", then try changing one path, test speed, then the next. So you can identify which of the paths and so which of the files are causing the problem.

Good luck, - alfred -

Good suggestions. I will work on that and let you know.

Thanks!

Not in a WAN environment - speed (bandwidth) is controlled by the network so if you have a 10mb up/10mb down network speed that's all it will do. This is controlled by the ISP and really depends on yor service.

With LAN the speed is interal hence the 10/100/1000mb transfer rate of most ethernet connections.

So unless you have a super fast internet connection you are at the mercy of the ISP or the regulated bandwidth of the WAN source, which ever is the slowest.
