Parcel numbering control

Hey All;

The question came up on the Land side
whether C3D allows more flexibility for control (read change) of Parcel
Numbers/Names. If you were to go through with numbering all the lots in a
subdivision, and then were requested to re-number them based on their Block
status, would this be a tedious task, or simple?

Block 1, Lot 1

Block 2, Lot 1

etc.

TIA

AFAIK tedious... though I would be interested in the non-tedious method...

The easiest way I have found is don't even try to number
them correct from the start.  It won't let you (my opinion, of
course).  However, it is really simple to just renumber after completion by
just using your mouse pick button.  I might also add that it appears even
easier if you start with a large number, then when you re-number you won't have
any conflicts.  I'll stand back if someone wants to start throwing things
at me.  <G>

While that sounds simple, what if you have hundreds of lots? Do you really want to spend the time editing each one? What if you make a mistake?

WHAT if the parcels were contained in a (oohhhs & ahhhs) database? Gee, then we'd have access to all kinds of parcel info that we could actually link to other databases.

Your original statement makes this all too clear 🙂

The same goes for alignments. We, as users, simply shouldn't have access to the 'key' they choose to use. We deserve some simple functionaility like being able to rename an alignment or rename/renumber parcels - EASILY (please spare me the whole import / export shabang 🙂

Hey Oberer;

Thanks for following me over here for this topic. This is where the Deskers
actually listen to you. Sometimes they will implement the things we talk
about here, but maybe not in the exact form we mention, but most times
awfully close. I think they really appreciate acquiring different Real World
examples to consider.

Buckle up and hang on, the ride gets exciting from here on. 🙂

Don,

The latest release included improvements
to parcel renumbering and renaming. This is the command that allows
you to draw a fence through a series of parcels.

For renumbering, the duplicate number issue was
eliminated so you don't have to first renumber them to a high value. If you've
created a bunch of parcels and the numbers are all jumbled you can pick a
starting point for parcel 1 and a path through the parcels, and it will renumber
them sequentially as you would expect.

For renaming, you can set it to use a name
template, or you can override it. The numbers in the name can come from the
actual parcel number and/or using a counter (from a specified starting number)
so I think that you should be able to accomplish this.

The properties of a parcel has also been improved.
You can set it to use a the name template, or you can override it with a
manually entered string.

Glen

Thanks for the update, Glen. That info will
come in handy when I get my grubby little hands on C3D once more.

This time I think I'll hang on for dear
life.
