Notes and Details in Paper Space or Model Space??

Hi All,

I am in the middle of a debate with a CAD Manager at another office on one issue and would like your honest unbiased input.

Do you prefer to put your typical details, swale details, custom sections, etc, in paper space or model space? There is pros and cons to each, just wondering what you think is best.

Thank you.

Also how do you handle the text orientation in the dim style? With text aligned to the dimline or horizontal? Maybe an edited or a second dim style will help.

If I don't know the specific angle for the dimtext. I open the Properties box, select the QuickCalc icon to the right of the text rotation, Hit the "Angle of Line Defined by Two Points" icon aol.PNG , select two points to define the angle and hit apply. Faster to do than to write about.

Yeah, the on-screen selection makes it easier to use. It sets the same angle as shown in the properties pallet.
Problem is, my dims are set to have the text above the line. When I set the rotation this way, they go to centred, breaking the line in half. Then I have to switch the property to allow me to drag the text without the line, and then go drag it visually to look right.
Couldn't they just have a property to flip the text to the other side, like the right-to-left switch?

Maybe I will start using UCS again. Just don't tell my coworkers!

I see your problem. We break the line so that doesn't cause us any problems. Yes. They should have a Flip Text option.

Def: view label and callout label are blocks with attributes tied to SSM fields

Sure. These are saved autocad views. As long as the drawing file is included on the model tab of SSM "add location" you drag and drop views as vports int ms of a sheet that is included in the current sheet set. SSM wants you to have a view label that can show a number, scale , Title, etc

the view tab shows you what sheets any dragged view is on. you can enumerate them here.

So now you can have a detail sheet with the details numbered. when you want to refer to a detail in a plan callout you go to the view tab right click the detail in question and add a callout block. cutomarily it would be the split circle with the sheet number/ detail number, but you can customize callout blocks and view label block to suit.

the beauty is if SSM has to be shuffled an renumbers all your detail callout are dynamically updated.

Thank you
