No points in surface?

OK, so we create a surface.  Then, in the Modify tab, Surface>Add Data, we add a point file from the existing survey database set.

Contours appear, but no points!

Why do the points not appear?  Drawing is 5.29 MB, too big to append.

Thanks for any assistance.

Have you checked the style components to see if points are turned off? Select your surface, right-click > edit style > display tab.

McL,

It's most likely what Ian says.

Thanks for the responses.  "All Points" group contains all the appropriate points, and the Surface display style is set as in the appended image.

What am I missing?  I do note that in "Edit Surface," both the "Delete Point" and "Delete Line" options display a red X, but all other options do not.

Thanks again.

OK let's backtrack to the original post.  You created a surface and then added data by reading points from an external file.  In another post you mention that you also have cogo points in the drawing, but if you used the external file option then you're not using them as part of the surface definition.  Changes to points in the drawing will not be reflected in the surface.

There are two types of points in use - COGO points and TIN points.  COGO points can be created and used for all sorts of purposes, and can be used to build a surface.  TIN points are part of the internal surface structure, and are created by defining coordinates using breaklines, contour data, point files, ACAD objects etc.  You can display them using various basic styles for editing purposes but most people don't show them.

You might want to check the point display settings for your style, to ensure that they show up as something you can see properly.

If you want to see the COGO points then that is a different set of settings.  You would need to make sure that the individual points have styles assigned, or that their point group is using a style that displays them.

Just to through some gas on the fire.

If you did not have any points in your drawing when you "Surface>Add Data, we add a point file from the existing survey database set."

You will not have any by adding points to the surface. (this Surface routine just adds the point elevation at the tin triangle corner.)
