need to draw in feet & inches

i need to be able to draw lines by entering feet and inches (and fractions of an inch)...i.e. 1'-9 1/4"

how can i adjust an existing drawing (that was set up by someone else)?

if i try to do it now, it says POINT OR OPTION KEYWORD required.

thanks

i just found the answer...all i needed to do was change my units back to architectural and precision to fractional size and insertion scale to inches.

Civil 3D doesn't like feet and inches, and won't play nicely with architectural units. If you'd like to read a thread where some of the best posters on this forum weighed in on this subject, go Here.

ACad will allow you to use inches but Civil3d can only use feet or meters.  You should carefully check the results of your data entry to see how the software reacts to this.

Ditto dave and Steve.

doing this line work in a vanilla file with the unists set as desired.

Xref the background at 12x, enter your ft-in, then insert back into c3d at 1/12

AutoCAD draws a line using units of length.  One unit in Decimal length is one unit in Architectural lenght,

The difference comes when that line is measured.  Changing from Decimal Units to Architectural lenght does not change the lenght of the line it changes how the line is measured.

For example, a line drawn in Decimal units is 100.00, now measure that line in Architectural units and the line is now 8'4"

Now take 100 and divide by 12, that's right 8.33, which is 8' 4".
