What are you expecting to see? What are you seeing?
What process have you used to get to this point?
What subassemblies are you using?
What troubleshooting methods have you employed?
What are you computer hardware specifications?
What are your computer operating system specifications?
What are your computer software specifications (Civil 3D type)?

You may not be aware but this is a peer to peer group not support upon demand.

That said, seeing that 82 peers viewed 81 no response, may lead one to the conclusion that a little more detail is needed to get some peer to peer help

If I were to venture a guess it looks to me like a targeting issue. Is it possible you have somehow gotten the target alignments switched at the bad point?

Thanks for your concern,

actually, i have an assembly (attachment-1) which is working fine but in some sections the lanes are crossing each other (attachment-2).

i am using Civil 3D 2012.

I have imported the targets (polylines) from micro station. Does that make any difference?

And i do observe one thing in the polyline properties that it is showing some area along with the length.

I also tried flattening the polylines, but no change. And i strongly think the issue is with the polylines b'coz when i do not assign any targets, the corridor works fine.

Kindly put some light on this issue.

Your concerns are highly appreciated...

I would isolate the polylines explode them, run Map Clean tool on the objects to get rid of any duplicate segments and psuedo nodes, etc.

I agree with Joe. Explode the polylines and use the Map Drawing Cleanup tool to remove any overlaping segments, duplicate vertices, etc. and recreate the polylines (you can use the Dissolve pseudonodes option in the cleanup tool to recreate the polylines).

A sure way to resolve any problems with the targets is to make the polylines into alignments. That process will expose any bad elements.

Microstation polylines often have overlapping segments and duplicate vertices.

I agree. Excellent advice but if you explode the plines can psuedo nodes exist? I would add Remove Zero Length Objects to the list of cleanups actions when cleaning plines and/or lines and curves.

All I can say is using the Dissolve Pseudo Nodes option will combine the line pieces into contiguous polylines.

Yes you'll want to erase zero length objects, dangles etc.

The cleanup options I recommend are in the following order:

Delete duplicate objects

Extend Undershoots

Break crossing objects

Erase dangles

Erase zero length objects

Dissolve Pseudo Nodes

Simplify Objects

You could skip the Break crossing option if you don't want vertices where the polys cross. Also it might lead to the polylines connecting along different branches vs. the originals.

You also could skip the simplify option if you don't mind unnessecary vertices.

Yeah it really depends on what the user wants for output.

And yes Joe. Belt and suspenders.

For the curious here's a couple of ways to make zero length objects.

1. Draw a line 5 units north

2. Draw a line 5 units east from the end of last line

3. Fillet with a radius of 5. The two lines turn into zero length lines at the arc's endpoints. Select them and check thier length. Now try this with plines and you will see they are still created but they are embedded in the pline. Explode the pline to select them.

One of my favorite noob moves. Don't think this still works in 2012 and up but if you have 2011 or earlier,

1. Begin to draw a plane. Start any where and form a triangle. When you get to the last segment, snap to the start point and then hit C to close.

By default C3D 2012 and later will prevent you from snapping to the startpoint but you can trick acad by starting at the endpoint of another object.

Thanks for the "great tips" on how to create zero length lines. Best advice I'll never use! Smiley Very Happy

(Of course it is good to know how they are created so we can avoid those actions).
