I am new to the amazing Civil 3D World and have been using AutoCAD for 15+ years. I am new to C3D and I am getting ready to start creating an existing pipe network (Gravity, Stormwater) from a professional survey drawing that was done for our firm. In order to get some great input I have listed some data below that I feel you should know about me and my drawing.
I have not created a complete pipe network before.
I have went through almost every tutorial and gone through some C3D books (Essentials 2014)
I am fairly familiar with the interface and know where to look when given a task. (create pipe network from layout, toolspace>prospector, label styles, etc...)
My drawing has Alignments, surfaces, elevation data, plenty of styles already created, parts lists already created.
The survey company we paid to have our C3D drawing done has left all of this data in the drawing for me to use or dispose of if needed.
There are a few sections in the drawing that the runoff (water) does not flow throught pipes and structures, which are ditches that have top and bottom invert elevations given.
The ditches are a part of a couple of the networks.
My main goal currently is to start creating an existing pipe network from the pipes and structures information that I have in my drawing.
My engineer has asked me to print out clips of the windows that he can apply data to that will help in the aid of completing the network. I assume he is refering to the rule sets or any type of data I feel the engineer can plug in useful information that I am unknowledgeable on. I wasn't sure if there was a way to print out this particular data in a certain standard as I go or if there was a good habit forming procedure to implement.
I have attached a clip of my drawing which I have selected the lines and annotation needed to create my pipe network. I have isolated the rest of the drawing for now.
I will appreciate any input or good habit forming guide in creating this existing pipe network very much!
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Chris,
I am not quite sure if the pipes and structures shown in the drawing are actually Civil 3D pipes and structures. You can check that by selecting their properties. If you see them listed as pipes and structures then they are pipes and structures that Civil 3D can read. Otherwise they may be listed as lines and blocks. In that case you may need to recreate them.
Assuming you have parts list in set up with pipes and structures, I think you can just go ahead and create new pipe network by either tracing the pipes and structures on your drawing or create pipe network from object. Program will add pipes and structures as you select them from the Network Layout Tools.
