MPOLYGON to POLYLINE?

I've converted some 2D contours from DGN to DWG and ended up with solid MPOLYGON shapes. Can MPOLYGON objects be converted to polylines (less the solid hatch) and remain in the layer which it came?

I've tried EXPLODE which puts the polyline on layer 0.

I've tried MPEDIT => disConnect and ended up with the same result.

I don't want to relayer from layer 0 because there are many lines and would be time consuming. Thanks in advance for your help!

How did you import them? If you use a map import make sure the box, in the
lower right of the import dialog, that says "Import polygons as closed
polylines" is checked.

Another option to file away for the future is to make polylines copy using LINEWORKSHRINKWRAP. It will take awhile and you will end up with tons of nodes; use MAPCLEAN to remove extra nodes.

If you only want the outline, you can also use the Polydisplay variable to toggle the fill off and only show the edges.
*stolen from the innernetz*
MPolygon objects are custom entities defined in Autodesk Map (and Land Desktop, Civil 3D). They serve primarily for representation of multi-part polygons (e.g. imported from .SHP files). This object has also the Fill property.

You can set the type and color of the interior Fill (independently on the MPolygon outline/border color) using the Properties window (Ctrl+1, the Pattern section). To completely suppress (switch off) the fill, use the POLYDISPLAY command and its "Edges" option, and regen your drawing.
