Move Point cloud

Hi there,

Is it possible to move a point cloud.

I haven't found a way. Point clouds are a simple representation of the
original points shown via the indexing file that gets created when you
import the data, so I believe those will have to be adjusted if you want the
cloud to move.

Maybe someone has a good idea.

One of the enhancement to point clouds introduced in 2011 is the ability to transform them via the coordinate system option in the create dialogue. I have yet to use point clouds in a real project but theoretically you could set up a user coordinate system for your project in Map and C3D would transform the point cloud based on the CS parameters. This approach would require a good understanding of coordinate systems and geodetic transformations so it would not be something you would want to take on unless you know what you are doing. If you really need to do it you might consult a knowlegable surveyor for help in setting up the coordinate system.

I submitted a report request that included a question about reprojecting
point clouds. Here is the reply I got from Autodesk:

4) Can point clouds be transformed or re-projected to other coordinate
systems? Yes. In Create Point Cloud dialog, Source data step you have an
option to set coordinate system for point cloud and also you need to match
your coordinate system with the one set in Settings tab>Edit Drawing
Settings>Units and Zones tab.

Has anyone had this correctly work for them? I'm currently trying to get my XYZ (ENZ) tab delimited scan file to import with UTM83-10 into a drawing that is : UTM83-10 with a grid scale and shift. It just seems to come in at UTM values, and will not seem to transform to my local system. All my Survey figure and point data is transforming correctly, Just not the Cloud :(.

EDIT: Nevermind, its just that I had ENZ isntead of GridE GridN Z, though now I'm getting a Fatal Error every time I build the Cloud from XYZ
