I clicked "Hide Model and Layout Tabs" to see what it would do, and now I can't get them back. Not only did I lose them in that drawing, I lost the tabs in EVERY drawing and EVERY version of C3D. I googled the problem and every forum says the same things, and I've tried them without success:
Options >> Display >> Layout elements >> Display Layout and Model Tabs
CUI >> Workspace Properties >> Model/Layout Tabs >> On
I'm lacking a couple of icons on the lower tray to the right of the Model/Paper button. I think that might be a clue, but I don't know what to do about it.
The baffling thing is that I've lost the tabs on ALL versions of C3D. Is there a magical command line entry that will bring back my beloved tabs?

Hi Murph,
This is what I've got:
Whenever I click next to Drawing Status Bar, it never stays checked, and it doesn't seem to do anything.

Check here in Options.

Hi Allen,
It's been checked from day one, but I've still got no tabs:

Yeah. I sometimes don't read to good. I see it in your original post now. I don't see anything obvious right away. Cleanscreen doesn't hide the tabs. I don't see you missing any icons. Do you remember which they were?
Loosing it in all versions makes it sound like a registry error. A repair might be the easiest way to fix that.
Allen
OK Found out which icon is "missing". Since it doesn't show that means that the software thinks the Tabs are still on. What happens if you turn them off on purpose through Options or the CUI and then turn them back on again?

Hi Allen,
I saw this on a blog:
I don't have the two icons to the right of the Model/Paper button. Kate Morrical, http://ltunlimited.typepad.com/my_weblog/2012/04/hide-or-display-model-layout-tabs.html, says they appear when you turn off your model/layout tabs.

Try turning them off and then back on. See my addendum to my previous post.

I saw that same article but I have 2014 Civil 3d and don't see those extra icons either and my Layout / Model tabs work normally.
I'm with Allen, I would try a repair if the Layout / Model tabs are missing in every profile whether using Civil 3d, Map or C3d as AutoCad workspaces.
Edit: When I do as Allen just sugested I do see the extra icons here.
I took another look at your screen post. It looks like your drawing is not maximized. If your drawing is floating you can move it down and cause the layout tabs to disappear off the bottom of the screen. Try maximizing your drawing.

The icons disappear by default when the tabs are hidden. They reappear when you display the tabs...at least that is default behavior.

This is what I'm talking about.
First screenshot shows a floating drawing.
This one shows where I've begun to move the drawing down. See the tabs begin to dissapear.
In this one I've moved the drawing low enough to hide the tabs.

It was actually your mention of the icon that let me solve it. Once I realized that if the icon was off it meant the program thought the tabs were being displayed. I started to try and find a way to duplicate the problem. Seeing that your drawing might be floating gave the clue to do that. Interesting what course these things can take.

Allen,
When you first suggested a registry problem, I gulped hard. I've never had any problem with AutoCAD that wasn't my own dang* fault, or at least caused by my ignorance. It's a complicated program, and I don't think I'll ever know everything about it.
Thanks for your solution. I love this forum.

Your welcome. Yes. I'm obviously fond of them too.
