message group reseller ration

I'm curious how many of you who post here are resellers vs. actual end users.

Well, um, I think you know where I sit in that group, but I'll play along.

EE is an ISV Partner. We are a reseller, but are required to bundle
services above and and beyond the box, and are not limited by geography.
This is why we can service customers from Maine to Jacksonville to
Seattle to San Diego.

Well, I ask because alot of people come here looking for answers and I think you would admit that advice coming from someone "in the trenches" so to speak will differ, sometimes greatly, from implementation teams. It's not a slam on anyone, just differences in the requirements of their jobs.

Not always, Fred. I see many people in the same game as we are here offering
simple (and often complex) software advice with no mention of sales.
Sometimes the answer is "ok, the process for doing your desired task is "X""
and sometimes the answer is "you really need to get some form of training."
Knowing which answer is the best answer can really help at times.

Of course, there are those long time users adamantly against any form of
training, and there are sales people in this group who offer no constructive
help, only pimp their wares. There will always be extremes...

I agree. And I wasn't asking to infer that answers were sell jobs. Also, there are stereotypes for users and resellers and things aren't always so easily lumped. Where I'm coming from is this.....from my experience.....sometimes the solutions handed down, whether from, from training, from user groups, or from wherever can be pie in the sky solutions.

For example...If someone wants a brief how to on pipes, the response will probably be different between trainer and user....the goals of each job are different. Trainers' goals are to learn and teach the software and the users' goal is to produce plans. Hope this isn't coming across wrong.

I think you've been hanging around the wrong trainers.

End user BTW.

Hello Fred
I whole Hartley agree with you.
I worked in both industries, over 20 yrs in the Land development industry and only a few in the reseller.
I have found that nothing is more infuriating than to be provided with a “pie in the sky solution” in the discussion group that will not work in the real world.
But those P.I.T.S (I like that) solution are not exclusive to reseller. Most good resellers truly look out for the best interest of the end user and may not be aware that the solution provided will not work in a production environment.

Correction on the “nothing is more infuriating” to me there is one. When someone post a inquiry on how to perform a task in civil 3D and they are immediately directed to a third party program, without considering that they may we a workable solution in Civil 3D.

Just my opinion, each to his/her own, every one is different, makes the world go around,
Besides it may not matter today after the Hadron Collision.

End user who has tried to express his gratitude over the years for all the
help I have received from end-users, trainers & developers.

Once again, thanks to all.

I'm with ya. If it wasn't for this discussion group, civil3d.com, and our reseller DCCADD I shutter to think where I would've been.

Well, you know what they say about end-users...

Okay, that was just too easy and fun even if I have a less flattering label.
