Measure beam to wall

Hi there,

I appreciate any help on this one.

See attached...

I want to be able to measure both top and bottom beams to where is would project on the concrete wall.  even project a point to where it would be on the wall. and measure distances 

1.top of beam-top of wall

2.underside of beam to bottom of wall

Do I need to ceate planes? Do I need to model?

I have no idea on this one.
