Material list trouble

I've created a corridor and a surface on that corridor.

but when I go to make my material list to make my volume table, The Corridor surface is not listed in the materials list dialog box for EG or Datum.

what am I doing wrong? I just want a simple cut/fill by station.

Well, to create a materials list, first you have to create a sample line
group - that's what material lists are created from. And in that SLG, you
should cample the stuff you want included in your materials, such as EG,
corridor surface, or datum.

I have a sample line group. I have my cross sections made with my existing grade and my proposed corridor in and tied to my proposed profile.

I can get a total cut and fill with volume from the surface dialog but I really need the by station cut/fill table.

Ive stepped through the tutorials all day and just cant see what I'm missing.

Oh, I misunderstood.

That's a bit more involved. You have to add the corridor shapes to your
existing materials list, and then create a material table from that. I
think I'll write a tutorial on that on our website - may be later this week,
though.

Maybe this would help...

Look at the Corridors 2008 cheat sheet in particular.

Jason:

Perhaps Christina Davis' Handout (CV114-2) at AU 2007 will save you some
work.

I created my subassemblies from a poly line instead of from the shape menus, Could that be causing my problem?

That depends - did you specify a shape for your subassembly? But to answer
your question, yes, that's very likely the problem.

If I right click on the sample-line and choose "sample line group properties" it comes "material list" than I would like choose the exist ground and roadmodell-terass. But I can only choose exist ground why?

I was having the same problem--only the existing ground surface was an option in the Compute Materials dialog box.

It's possible you did the following:

created a corridor -> created a sample line group -> created the corridor surface -> attempted to compute materials

You should have done it in the following order:

created a corridor -> created the corridor surface -> created a sample line group -> attempted to compute materials

If you created a sample line group before creating the surface, try deleting the sample line group and recreating it. That worked for me. I can now select my corridor surface in the Compute Materials dialog box.

I thank the other posters who emphasized the importance of sample lines.

I'm not sure if this is a recently added feature since the majority of this discussion has taken place, but when I have created a new surface or pipe network, etc. and need to add these objects to my existing cross sections I do the following.

Select Sample Line > Right-Click Sample Line Group Properties > Sections Tab > Sample More Sources... (button at upper right corner of window) > all available sources should be listed on left side of window > select desired surfaces or objects from Available Sources and click Add>> to include in Sampled Sources.
