Map 3D Object Enabler

It looks like the Civil 3D 2005 object enabler works on just about every 2005 product except Map 3D 2005. Is there a reason why this was excluded, and is an object enabler for Map 3D planned in the near future?

Because most of the C3D objects are already in Map3D 2005. Do they not appear as expected? -- James Wedding, P.E. Technology Manager Associate Jones & Boyd, Inc. Dallas, TX XP/2 on P4-3.4/1G LDT2005+C3D2005

Most of the C3D objects are not already in Map 3D. Alignments, profiles, tin surfaces, etc. appear as proxy entities in Map 3D. If you have the object enabler installed for the other 2005 products, they appear as AECC_Alignments AECC_Profiles, etc. The object enabler works for Land Enabled Map 3D, so I don't understand why regular Map 3D would not be included. Going around the question, what would you like to do to the C3D objects that proxies don't cover? -- James Wedding, P.E. Technology Manager Associate Jones & Boyd, Inc. Dallas, TX XP/2 on P4-3.4/1G LDT2005+C3D2005

My only concern with no object enabler is if the proxygraphics system variable isn't set to 1. The only other ability the object enabler gives you is grip editing of certain objects. Other than that, I realize that even with the object enabler, C3D objects aren't much different that proxies in what you can do with them in other versions of AutoCAD. Basically, I've got a client wanting to start designing in C3D, and hand that design off to their drafters using Map 3d, but they don't like getting the error message about proxies when they open up the drawings in Map 3d. They just want to make sure the two work together as seemlessly as possible. Neil, Here is a little more detail on the Object Enabler situation. The Autodesk Civil 3D 2005 Object Enabler is not supported on Autodesk Map 2005 for the following reason. As you know, Autodesk Map3D includes the Point and Surface functionality Civil 3D. When you launch Autodesk Map you will see modules such as Aeccbase15.dbx and AeccLand15.dbx load. There is an Object Enabler for Map 3D 2005 which will enable these objects in a non-Map 3D 2005 platform. When we developed Autodesk Civil 3D 2005, the objects had to be versioned and new objects were introduced. Therefore, if you run Civil 3D 2005, you will see the modules AeccBase20.dbx and AeccLand20.dbx (and others) load. Since AutoCAD Map 3D 2005 and Autodesk Civil 3D 2005 are both on the same AutoCAD version, it is not possible to have multiple versions of the Civil components loaded simultaneously. Therefore, if you try to open a Civil 3D drawing in Map 2005 you will get the following messages at the command line: Warning: Inhibiting simultaneous loading of multiple versions of application An alternative would have been to update Autodesk Map 3D 2005 when Autodesk Civil 3D 2005 was released in October. In this scenario, drawings in Map would have been "upgraded" to the new version. It was viewed that this would not be desirable between major releases of Autodesk Map. For the next release cycle, Autodesk Map and Autodesk Civil 3D will share the same Civil components and the OE will work on both products. Hope this helps clarify the situation. Thanks for the info. Daniel. That makes perfect sense.
