Lots, Blocks & Parcels Oh My

This is my first post on Civil 3D 2008. I am the CAD manager at a firm but unfortunately I am not involved in the first project getting done with Civil 3D. We are attempting to do a 800 lot subdivision. With that said our county standard is that the lot lines go to the center of the road and not to a ROW line. That line is an easement. With 800+ lots the roads themselves create roughly what I would call 40 blocks. Civil 3D wants to create these as parcels (should be blocks) once the roads are defined. I want them to be blocks and then subdivide these into parcels as well as keep the roads as the boundary so IF and When the road alignments change the blocks and parcels will change as well. We looked into creating sites for all the blocks but it creates many other parcels besides the one we define (the exterior remaining parcels). Is there a place I can go to see how this can be accomplished or has anyone else encountered this and can pass along the wisdom so I can get on track.
Thanks so much

If the alignment is in the same site as the parcels it will essentially
become a parcel segment. If you adjust the alignment it will adjust any
parcels that use it. If you have any other parcel segments that
intersection the alignment, such as lot lines, they will not move with the
alignment if it is moved/edited.

parcels are labeled dynamically, but they are not dynamic in the sense that profiles are dynamic to a surface. The post above has it right when he says that the other parcel lines will not update automatically.

In order to make a block of parcels, you only need the back lot line and a line at either end of the alignment which goes back to the back lot line. Once this parcel is created, you further divide it by placing new lines to divide it using the parcel create by layout.

if you try to create all your parcels with closed polylines, your in for exactly what your seeing. Alot of unwanted problems.

Get the book mastering Civl3D, I'm sure it gives best practices for dealing with parcels in a manor that is easy to understand.

good luck,

Dan

here's a link to some parcel rules to note as you begin.
