Linetypes bad definitions in autocad 2014 work fine in civil 3d 2014

Load linetype file in autocad 2014 and I get bad definitions on a couple. Load they exact same file in civil 3d 2014 and all linetypes load fine and work correctly. It looks like all the support files are pointing to the same folders for both.

Does Plain Autocad read linetypes and shapes different that Civil3d?

Thanks,

Todd

You're certain the support folder are the same?  it sounds very much like AutoCAD is not finding a custom SHX file.  In C3D, type (findfile "MyFile.shx") replace MyFile with an SHX file you know is referenced in the LIN file.  Then do the same thing in AutoCAD.  This piece of code will tell you if/where the file has been found.  They should be in the same place.

Also, make sure AutoCAD ius loading the exact same LIN file.  Use TYPE and load the file manually.

I added this path to the support path files in AutoCAD. Then the complex lines worked. Plain AutoCAD does not have something in its support file that Civil3d has but not sure what. In any case it's working now, but may need to figure out what to send along to my plain AutoCAD users in other firms to get it to work.

Finding shx files in same file locations in both civil and AutoCAD. The linetypes having issues are using shapes. The one I'm working with is a silt fence that has boxes along the line. This line was created by modifying some of the old complex linetype deigns from Land Development Desktop.

Issue appears with all these complex linetypes, but only in Autocad. Work fine in civil3d.

So in AutoCAD, type in SHAPE, then ?, then <enter>

Does it list the shape "BOX" under the file AECCLAND.SHX?

(It should list the loaded shape files and the available shapes in them, example below.)

Available shapes:
File: ltypeshp.shx
  TRACK1 ZIG
  BOX CIRC1
  BAT AMZIGZAG

I don't know how that def is working without a pen down assignment just before the shape. Here's an example that works with a shape.

*STORM,Storm Sewer
A,0,-.1,[EQUAL,EQUAL,s=.1],-.1

From Help

Simple Custom Linetypes

Bottom of the Page

Each linetype is defined            on two lines in a linetype definition file. The first line contains            the linetype name and an optional description. The second line is the            code that defines the actual linetype pattern.

The second line must begin with the letter            A (alignment), followed by a list of pattern descriptors that define            pen-up lengths (spaces), pen-down lengths (dashes), and dots. You            can include comments in an LIN file by beginning the line with a            semicolon (:smileywink:.

Works fine in Civil3d. We just started using 2014. We have the design suite and I was using plain AutoCAD for some drawings. And none of the complex linetypes from the old Land Desktop work in the plain AutoCAD. Guess will have to use the civil3d as AutoCAD to get them to work. Just wonder how these have been showing up when we send to outside firms without Civil3d. We always send the linetype files along for them to use.

I also saw something on the web that says that Autodesk is aware of an issue with complex linetypes and is working on it. Not sure if that is part of this issue or not.

I use those LDD shapes to and they all work in 2014. Your def also worked without issue. I would confirm as stated above that the shx file is in one of the support paths. Also confirm the file size in both installation paths is the same.

It's the SHX file that AutoCAD does not have. That's why the path to this SHX file need to be in the support files paths.
