LIDAR help

I need to use LIDAR data to create surfaces. I've followed the routine previously posted but end up with an error. My procedure is as follows:
1. Map Import a contour shp file
2. Create object data
3. The contour lines display but all with 0 elevation and correct elevation is displayed under object data
4. Define Query
5. Query type: Location ALL
6. Query mode: Draw
7. Press Alter Properties button
8. Select ELEVATION
9. Press Expression button
10. Select ELEVATION
11. Press Add button
12. Press OK
13. Press Execute Query button

This is where a message "Query source is not available or empty" appears

Any help would be appreciated. All associated data and files with the shape file are also located in the same folder as the .shp file.

I'm not current on the latest Map capabilities but
the old workflow requires that you save your contour file and attach it to a new
drawing to perfrom the Alter Properties Query. From your description of your
workflow it looks like you are trying to perform the Alter Properties query from
within the contour drawing which is why you are getting the error. It is looking
for an attached drawing for the source data.

Thanks for the input. I tried it both ways, directly in the contour dwg. and also with the contour dwg. attached. Same error.

Can you thin the file down and post a sample to the
Customer files? Make sure you test the sample first to verify the
behavior.
