Layiso to freeze

Is there a setting I'm missing that I can use to set Layiso to freeze all other layers instead of turning them off?

Layiso isolates layers, not freezes them..... Are you looking for the command layfrz? This will freeze layers one at a time.

actually im looking to leave the current layer on, and freeze all other layers.

layiso come close by turning all the others off, but a crossing window will still affect layers that are turned off. Freezing wont allow that possible error.

why not open your layer manager, select all the layers and freeze them. It won't allow you to freeze your current layer.

How? What possible error?
That is is only reason I use that command. So I can modify everything on the
current layer and the objects on the other layers will not be affected.
Please tell me what command you are using after layiso that will allow a
crossing widow to still affect layers that are turned off....I'm curious.

type layiso at the command line then s for settings. You then have a choice of off/lock and fade but nothing for freeze. Maybe if you set it to lock then you can quickly sort the layers in layer manager and freeze them there. Not perfect but an option at least

I was mistaken about the crossing window, it's the "all" function that can still affect layers that are turned off.

I just thought that since the layiso already had code to turn layers off it shouldn't be much of a stretch to get the layers to freeze as well.

Layiso will work for what I'm doing, I would just prefer something like a Layisofr that would both turn the layers off and freeze them.

Why do you want to do both? Isn't that redundant?

Is it simply so you can use "Select All"?

mainly as a safety measure for others in the office.
I want to be able to set that command so they can quickly isolate a layer and use the standard set of commands they are used to without the danger of accidentally eradicating a bunch of data.

We used to have lisp routines to do this, and people have gotten used to that. But management wants us to get away from the lisps and use a more "right out of the box" approach.

What exactly are they doing that would require them to regularly use "Select All"?

I don't think I've used that command at all in Civil-3D. However, I do use "Select Similar" with some frequency. One of the great things about "Select Similar" is you don't have to do a LAYISO at all.

I don't specifically know.

I'm trying to get to a command that I can tell people very set in their ways is the same thing as they've been using for 10 years.

I'll figure something else out.
thanks.

And these people are using Civil-3D...?!

Good luck! And you might want to keep lots of aspirin and antacids around... 🙂

Hi sorry I was looking for the same thing you are I prefer the layiso command to freeze all the other layers not lock them I just like it for visual purposes. So I got on to this chat to try to figure it out but it did not help much so I went to the help menu in autocad and figured it out myself. So I thought I would help you out too.

ok so if you type layiso then type s for settings you are given two options:

off -which this settings freezes all other layers besides the one you select.

lock and fade - which this setting locks and fades all other layers.

So you want to set your setting to "off"

Hope this helps

There used to be a way to isolate layer(s) by freezing/thawing instead of on/off, and I actually liked that way better, but it's been several years since I've seen it, and do not even recall if it was in the program or a lisp routine.

Once I found the option to turn layers off completely instead of simply dimming them (I hated that, did not serve the purpose, IMO), I was able to adapt, but would still prefer freeze/thaw.

Personally, I'd like to see it as an option without having to go the "Why don't you do X" route.
